Claims
- 1. Apparatus for counteracting fluctuations of torque, comprising at least two flywheel elements which are rotatable relative to each other about a common axis, said elements including a first flywheel element connectable with a prime mover and a second flywheel element connectable with a transmission by way of a clutch; anddamper means interposed between said flywheel elements, said damper means including at least two resilient dampers operating in parallel, one of said at least two dampers being arranged to oppose, alone, a first stage of rotation of said first and second flywheel elements from a starting position and the other of said at least two dampers being arranged to oppose, with said one damper, a next-following second stage of rotation of said first and second flywheel elements relative to each other, said damper means including portions contacting portions of said first flywheel element and at least said portions of said first flywheel element having wear resistant means.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said clutch is a friction clutch.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said flywheel elements, said prime mover, said transmission and said clutch form part of a power train in a motor vehicle.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said one damper and said other damper respectively comprise first and second energy storing elements, said first energy storing elements being located at a first radial distance and said second energy storing elements being located at a lesser second radial distance from said axis.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein at least one of said dampers comprises energy storing elements and said damper means further comprises a member rotatable with said second flywheel element and including projections extending substantially radially of said axis and engaging at least some of said energy storing elements.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said one damper includes first energy storing elements having a first stiffness and said other damper includes second energy storing elements having a second stiffness greater than said first stiffness.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said first flywheel element comprises component parts defining an annular chamber.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein at least a portion of said damper means is located in said chamber.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein said component parts of said first flywheel element include a flange-like wall located at one side of said chamber and extending at least substantially radially of said axis.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein said component parts of said first flywheel element further include a second wall disposed between said substantially flange-like wall and said second flywheel element, as seen in the direction of said axis.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said component parts of said first flywheel element further comprise an annular portion disposed between said walls and surrounding said chamber.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein said portions of said damper means abut said annular portion of said first flywheel element, at least under the influence of centrifugal force, when said first flywheel element is rotated.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein at least one of said flange-like and second walls of said first flywheel element contains a metallic sheet material.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein said at least one of said flange-like and second walls of said first flywheel element is said flange-like wall.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein said at least one of said flange-like and second walls of said first flywheel eement is said second wall.
