Claims
- 1. An apparatus for producing thin optical films, said apparatus comprising:
a vacuum vessel; spray means, disposed in said vacuum vessel, for spraying a solution or dispersion of thin film materials; means for supporting a substrate on which the thin film materials are allowed to deposit; means for heating the thin film material after deposition of said thin film material on said substrate; vacuum exhaust unit for exhausting gases from said vacuum vessel in order to maintain a desired pressure in said vacuum vessel; and an exhaust trap unit for creating a pressure differential between a deposit room and said vacuum vessel.
- 2. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said exhaust trap unit comprises a coagulation means for the solution or dispersive medium exhausted from said vacuum vessel, wherein said coagulation means is provided for preventing the solution or dispersive medium from reaching said vacuum exhaust unit.
- 3. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said spray means comprises a plurality of spray nozzles, wherein each of said spray nozzles includes a needle valve.
- 4. An apparatus as claimed in claim 3, wherein each of said needle valves includes a needle engagable with a needle seat formed in a spray nozzle aperature.
- 5. An apparatus as claimed in claim 4, wherein said spray nozzle aperture is an outwardly tapered opening, and said needle member is connected by a needle control mechanism.
- 6. An apparatus as claimed in claim 5, further comprising a plurality of liquid sumps connected to said spray nozzles, respectively, wherein said liquid sumps contain separate solutions or dispersions of different film materials, such that said different film materials are sprayed from respective separate spray nozzles onto the substrate to form a composite film thereon.
- 7. An apparatus as claimed in claim 3, further comprising a jogging mechanism provided at said spray nozzles to control the amount of solution dispersive medium sprayed from said nozzles.
- 8. An apparatus as claimed in claim 3, further comprising a shutter mechanism proved between said spray nozzles and the substrate.
- 9. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a regenerating device for regenerating the solution or dispersive medium trapped by said low temperature coagulation means.
- 10. An apparatus for producing thin optical films, said apparatus comprising:
a vacuum vessel; spray means, disposed in said vacuum vessel, for spraying a solution or dispersion of thin film materials; means for supporting a substrate on which the thin film materials are allowed to deposit; means for heating the thin film material after deposition of said thin film material on said substrate; a vacuum exhaust unit for exhausting gases from said vacuum vessel in order to maintain a desired pressure in said vacuum vessel; and physical adsorption means for preventing vaporized solvents volatilized in said vacuum vessel from reaching the vacuum exhaust unit.
- 11. An apparatus as claimed in claim 10, wherein said spray means comprises a plurality of spray nozzles, wherein each of said spray nozzles includes a needle valve.
- 12. An apparatus as claimed in claim 11, wherein each of said needle valves includes a needle engagable with a needle seat formed in a spray nozzle aperture.
- 13. An apparatus as claimed in claim 12, wherein said spray nozzle aperture is an outwardly tapered opening, and said needle member is connected by a needle control mechanism.
- 14. An apparatus as claimed in claim 13, further comprising a plurality of liquid sumps connected to said spray nozzles, respectively, wherein said liquid sumps contain separate solutions or dispersions of different film materials, such that said different film materials are sprayed from respective separate spray nozzles onto the substrate to form a composite film thereon.
- 15. An apparatus as claimed in claim 11, further comprising a jogging mechanism provided at said spray nozzles to control the amount of solution dispersive medium sprayed from said nozzles.
- 16. An apparatus as claimed in claim 11, further comprising a shutter mechanism proved between said spray nozzles and the substrate.
- 17. An apparatus as claimed in claim 10, further comprising a regenerating device for regenerating the solution or dispersive medium trapped by said low temperature coagulation means.
- 18. An apparatus as claimed in claim 10, wherein said means for exhausting gases from said vacuum vessel comprises a vacuum pump.
