Claims
- 1. An apparatus for forming images according to digital image data and a gradation function which relates original document density to image density using an electrophotographic process, comprising:
- a photoconductor;
- sensitizing means for sensitizing said photoconductor at a sensitizing electric potential;
- exposure means for exposing said photoconductor which has been sensitized by said sensitizing means to form an electrostatic latent image with a quantity of light based on said digital image data;
- development means for developing the electrostatic latent image;
- supply means for supplying a bias electric voltage to said development means, said bias electric voltage being applied to toners;
- first change means for changing the bias electric voltage; and
- second change means for allowing said gradation function to remain unchanged by changing a maximum quantity of light used by said exposure means by changing a driving current of said exposure means according to a change in the bias electric voltage of said supply means performed by said first change means, wherein said exposure means exposes said photoconductor by changing a light intensity of a light beam under a constant light-emitting time according to said digital image data.
- 2. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said exposure means further comprises a laser diode, and said second change means changes the light intensity by changing a driving current of the laser diode.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said second change means changes said driving current by an amount which is directly proportional to said change in the electric bias voltage, whereby said gradation characteristic remains substantially constant over an entire density range.
- 4. An apparatus for forming images according to digital image data and a gradation function which relates original document density to image density using an electrophotographic process comprising:
- a photoconductor;
- sensitizing means for sensitizing said photoconductor at a sensitizing electric potential;
- exposure means for exposing said photoconductor which has been sensitized by said sensitizing means to form an electrostatic latent image with a quantity of light based on said digital image data;
- development means for developing the electrostatic latent image;
- supply means for supplying a bias electric voltage to said development means, said bias electric voltage being applied to toners;
- first change means for changing the bias electric voltage; and
- second change means for allowing said gradation function to remain unchanged by changing a maximum quantity of light used by said exposure means according to a change in the bias electric voltage of said supply means performed by said first change means, wherein said exposure means comprises:
- beam generator means for generating a light beam,
- converter means for converting said digital image data to analog image data,
- amplifying means for amplifying the analog image data, and
- driver means for driving the beam generator means according to the amplified analog image data, wherein said second change means changes a gain of the amplifying means according to a change in the bias electric voltage by said first change means.
- 5. An apparatus according to claim 4, wherein said exposure means exposes said photoconductor by changing a light intensity of said light beam under a constant light-emitting time according to said digital image data.
- 6. An apparatus according to claim 4, wherein said exposure means exposes said photoconductor by changing a light-emitting time of said light beam under a constant light intensity according to said digital image data.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein said second change means changes said gain by an amount which is directly proportional to said change in the electric bias voltage, whereby said gradation characteristic remains substantially constant over an entire density range.
- 8. An apparatus for forming images according to digital image data and a gradation function which relates original document density to image density using an electrophotographic process comprising:
- a photoconductor;
- sensitizing means for sensitizing said photoconductor at a sensitizing electric potential;
- exposure means for exposing said photoconductor which has been sensitized by said sensitizing means to form an electrostatic latent image with a quantity of light based on said digital image data;
- development means for developing the electrostatic latent image;
- supply means for supplying a bias electric voltage to said development means, said bias electric voltage being applied to toners;
- first change means for changing the bias electric voltage; and
- second change means for allowing said gradation function to remain unchanged by changing a maximum quantity of light used by said exposure means according to a change in the bias electric voltage of said supply means performed by said first change means so wherein said exposure means exposes said photoconductor by changing a light-emitting time of a light beam under a constant light intensity according to said digital image data.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein said second change means changes said quantity of light by an amount which is directly proportional to said change in the electric bias voltage, whereby said gradation characteristic remains substantially constant over an entire density range.
