Claims
- 1. An apparatus for growing cells in a 2-D cell cassette having a matrix for cell growth under pressure comprising two side assemblies which include a frame with a rigid support that fits over the 2-D cell cassette, with said assemblies positioned on either side of the cassette over the solid support sides, and a means to secure the sides of the cassette.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the matrix for cell growth is a membrane.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the membrane is a fiber-reinforced membrane.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the fiber is metal or organic based.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the cassette contains a means to facilitate imposition of fluid pressure.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein the means is a valve side port.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the rigid support contains mesh.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the mesh is made of plastic or stainless steel, platinum, gold, titanium, or other biocompatible metal.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the cells are grown under an electric field imposed across the cassette via the two metal mesh.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein percentage of coverage of membrane is at least 50%.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein connecting to each side frame is a valve support which mates with an infusion part.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 1 made of plastic or stainless steel.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 1 as depicted in FIG. 1.
- 14. An equipment comprising the apparatus of claim 1.
- 15. A method of growing cells under static or variable pressure comprising steps of:
(a) seeding said cells in the fluid growth media within cassette; (b) placing the cassette of step (a) into the apparatus of claim 1; and (c) applying static or dynamic hydrodynamic pressure via the side port on the cassette.
- 16. The method of claim 15, wherein the cells are solid or liquid tumor cells.
- 17. The method of claim 16, wherein the tumor is an osteogenic sarcoma.
- 18. The method of claim 14, wherein the cells are bacteria, yeast, cartilage, nerve or muscle cells.
- 19. The method of claim 15, wherein the static pressure ranges from negative to 100 mmHg.
- 20. A composition comprising cells grown by the method of claim 15.
- 21. A composition comprising the extract of cells grown by the method of claim 15.
- 22. The method of claim 15 wherein the cells are grown under an electric field imposed across the cassette via the two metal mesh.
