Claims
- 1. An apparatus for the heat treatment of lime sludge to form a burnt lime product therefrom, comprising:
- a. dryer means having a material inlet and material discharge, which dryer means utilizes heated gases for drying lime sludge;
- b. separator means in communication with the dryer means material discharge for separating the dried lime sludge from the heated gases, said separator means having a discharge end through which the separated dried lime sludge exits the separator means;
- c. compacting means in communication with said separator means for compacting separated dried lime sludge into a plurality of substantially uniform bodies of a size suitable for treatment by a shaft kiln;
- d. shaft kiln means for converting the compacted separated dried lime sludge to a burnt lime product; and,
- e. conveying means for conveying dried lime sludge from the compacting means to the shaft kiln means.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising mixing means located upstream from the dryer means, said mixing means being in communication with both the material inlet of the dryer means and a recycle conduit that is attached to the discharge end of the separator means wherein a portion of the separated dried sludge is recycled to the mixing means via the recycle conduit to be mixed, in said mixing means, with fresh lime sludge.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the dryer means is a flash dryer.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein the mixing means is a pug mill.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the separator means is a cyclone.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a dust collector, in communication with the separator, for receiving the separated gases from the separator, wherein said separated gases contain product fines.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 6, further comprising means for separating said product fines from the separated gases and thereafter recycling said product fines to said mixing means.
