Claims
- 1. An apparatus for carrying out a catalytic hydrocarbon conversion process, comprising (a) at least two chambers of unequal volumes, connected in series and placed vertically side by side, each of said chambers containing, when in operation, a moving catalyst bed for carrying out the conversion of hydrocarbons, (b) an accumulator-decantor vessel in which used catalyst accumulates and (c) a fixed-bed regeneration chamber for regenerating used catalyst placed below the accumulator-decantor vessel, said apparatus further comprising:
- an inlet connected to the upper part of each catalytic chamber for introducing a charge therein, fresh charge being introduced into the catalytic chamber of the smallest volume,
- an outlet connected to the lower part of each catalytic chamber for withdrawing a charge therefrom,
- heating means communicating with the outlet of each catalytic chamber, except the chamber of the greatest volume, and with the inlet of the succeeding catalytic chamber for heating the charge withdrawn from the preceding catalytic chamber, before its introduction into the succeeding catalytic chamber,
- means for introducing catalyst at the top portion of each catalytic chamber,
- means for withdrawing catalyst from the bottom portion of each catalytic chamber,
- lift means for conveying catalyst withdrawn from the bottom portion of each catalyst chamber, except the chamber of the greatest volume, to the top portion of the succeeding catalytic chamber,
- lift means for conveying catalyst withdrawn from the bottom of the catalytic chamber of the greatest volume to the accumulator-decantor vessel,
- means for supplying each lift means with recycle hydrogen for use as the driving fluid for conveying catalyst,
- duct means for transferring the catalyst accumulated in the accumulator-decantor vessel to the regeneration chamber,
- means for isolating the regeneration chamber from the rest of the apparatus,
- means for supporting a fixed catalyst bed in the regeneration chamber,
- one or more inlets connected to the regeneration chamber for introduction therein of a gas containing molecular oxygen and an inert gas,
- an inlet connected to the regeneration chamber for introducing therein a halogenated compound,
- an outlet connected to the regeneration chamber for discharging the gases therefrom,
- means for scavenging the regeneration chamber with nitrogen,
- means for removing regenerated catalyst from the regeneration chamber,
- means for introducing regenerated catalyst into the top portion of the catalytic chamber of the smallest volume, and
- a compartment in which regenerated catalyst is reduced before being introduced into the upper part of the catalytic chamber of the smallest volume.
- 2. An apparatus for carrying out a catalytic hydrocarbon conversion process, comprising (a) at least three catalytic chambers of unequal volumes arranged vertically side by side of said chambers containing, when in operation, a moving catalyst bed for carrying out hydrocarbon conversion, (b) an accumulator-decantor vessel in which used catalyst accumulates and (c) a fixed bed regeneration chamber for regenerating used catalyst placed below the decantor-accumulator vessel, said apparatus further comprising:
- an inlet connected to the upper part of the catalytic chamber of the smallest volume for introducing fresh charge,
- an inlet connected to the upper part of each one of the other catalytic chamber for introducing a charge,
- an outlet connected to the lower part of each catalytic chamber for withdrawing a charge,
- heating means communicating with the outlet of each catalytic chamber, except the chamber of the greatest volume, and with the inlet of the succeeding catalytic chamber for heating the charge withdrawn from the preceding catalytic chamber before introducing the same into the succeeding catalytic chamber,
- means for withdrawing catalyst from the bottom portion of the catalytic chamber of the smallest volume,
- lift means for conveying catalyst withdrawn from the bottom portion of the catalytic chamber of the smallest volume to the accumulator-decantor vessel,
- means for discharging gases from the accumulator-decantor vessel,
- duct means for transferring catalyst accumulated in the accumulator-decantor vessel to the regeneration chamber,
- means for isolating the regeneration chamber from the rest of the apparatus,
- means for supporting a fixed catalyst bed in the regeneration chamber,
- one or more inlets connected to the regeneration chamber for introducing therein a gas containing molecular oxygen and an inert gas,
- an inlet connected to the regeneration chamber for introducing therein a halogenated compound,
- an outlet connected to the regeneration chamber for discharging the gases therefrom,
- means for scavenging the regeneration chamber with nitrogen,
- means for removing regenerated catalyst from the regeneration chamber,
- means for introducing regenerated catalyst into the upper part of the catalytic chamber of the greatest volume,
- a compartment wherein regenerated catalyst is reduced before being introduced into the upper part of the catalytic chamber of the greatest volume,
- means for withdrawing catalyst from the bottom portion of the catalytic chamber of the greatest volume,
- means for introducing at the top of the catalytic chambers other than that of the greatest volume, catalyst withdrawn from the bottom portion of a catalytic chamber of greater volume, the catalyst circulating downwardly successively through the catalytic chambers,
- means for withdrawing catalyst from the bottom of each of said other catalytic chambers,
- lift means for conveying, on the one hand, catalyst withdrawn from the bottom portion of the catalytic chamber of the greatest volume to the top portion of another catalytic chamber and, on the other hand, from the bottom portion, of each one of the other catalytic chambers to the top portion of the succeeding catalytic chamber, and
- means for supplying each life means with recycle hydrogen for use as the driving fluid for conveying catalyst.
