Claims
- 1. Apparatus for depositing material from a multiplicity of outlets into respective rows of molds, said apparatus comprising:
- mixing means for mixing gas with liquid material under pressure;
- at least one depositor having a plurality of outlets and respective outlet valve means operatively associated with said outlets for controlling the flow of the mixture of liquid material and gas through said outlets;
- a conveyor for conveying rows of molds past said outlets of the depositor;
- means for supplying the mixture of liquid material and gas under pressure to said at least one depositor; and
- control means operatively connected to said valves for periodically opening and closing said valves in a sequence such that, in use, the number of valves which are open and the number of valves which are closed in said at least one depositor does not vary.
- 2. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein:
- the periodic valve opening and closing means is arranged so that, at any time, only one valve in said at least one depositor is closed while the remaining valves in said depositor are open.
- 3. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 including:
- the conveyor being continuously movable;
- molds arranged in rows on said conveyor extending longitudinally in the direction of travel of the conveyor with respective molds in the respective rows aligned in a direction at right angles to said direction of travel;
- said at least one depositor is inclined at an acute angle to said direction at right angles; and
- said valve opening and closing means is controlled so as to cause material to be discharged from said at least one depositor into said respective molds aligned at right angles to the direction of travel during each cycle of operation.
- 4. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein each respective outlet valve means comprises:
- an annular valve seat in the respective outlet;
- a movable valve member positioned for cooperation with said annular valve seat to control the flow of said material through said outlet valve means; and
- a portion of said valve member downstream of said valve seat defining with surrounding means an annular orifice means having a length which is not greater than its diameter, said annular orifice means being a final outlet orifice means from said at least one depositor.
- 5. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein:
- a plurality of said depositors is provided; and
- said valve opening and closing means is arranged to cause a respective one of the valves in every depositor to be periodically opened and closed simultaneously.
- 6. Apparatus as claimed in claim 5, wherein:
- a separate control valve is provided for controlling operation of each respective one of the valves in the depositors which are to be opened and closed simultaneously.
- 7. Apparatus as claimed in claim 6 and further comprising:
- a cam shaft operatively connected to said conveyor to be driven thereby;
- a plurality of cams mounted on said cam shaft for rotation therewith each having a cam surface for operating said control valves equi-angularly staggered around said cam shaft; and
- means for controlling each control valve operatively engaging a respective one of said cams to be operated thereby.
