Claims
- 1. Apparatus for manufacturing a perforated web designed to separate two environments and to allow a liquid to flow in one direction from a first environment to a second environment, comprising means for feeding the web, a pair of contra-rotating cylinders pressed against each other, between which the web is passed, a first cylinder being smooth and a second cylinder having projections, wherein the second cylinder having projections turns at a greater peripheral speed than a peripheral speed of the first cylinder, wherein said first cylinder and said second cylinder cooperate such that said projections on said second cylinder penetrate into said web to cause a plastic deformation of said web and form apertures with strands projecting therefrom in said web, said strands being on a side of said web opposite that contacting said projections.
- 2. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein each of the pair of cylinders is equipped with heating means, and said heating means permit independent adjustment of a surface temperature for each of said pair of cylinders.
- 3. Apparatus for manufacturing a perforated web designed to separate two environments and to allow a liquid to flow in one direction from a first environment to a second environment, comprising means for feeding the web, a pair of contra-rotating cylinders pressed against each other, between which the web is passed, a first cylinder being smooth and a second cylinder having projections, wherein the second cylinder having projections turns at a greater peripheral speed than a peripheral speed of the first cylinder, wherein said first cylinder and said second cylinder cooperate such that said projections on said second cylinder penetrate into said web to cause a plastic deformation of said web and form apertures with strands projecting therefrom in said web, said strands being on a side of said web opposite that contacting said projections, and wherein said means for feeding the web feeds said web at a speed lower than said peripheral speed of said second cylinder.
- 4. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the pair of cylinders has heating means for heating its surface.
- 5. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the difference between peripheral speeds of the second cylinder with projections and the first cylinder is adjustable.
- 6. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein pressure between the pair of cylinders is adjustable.
- 7. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the second cylinder with projections has an outer surface which has areas with projections and areas that are smooth.
- 8. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the second cylinder with projections has areas with higher projections and areas with lower projections.
- 9. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the first cylinder has an elastically yielding cylindrical surface including a covering made of a rubber material or a textile fibre.
- 10. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the first cylinder has an outer surface made of metal.
