- reheating means for reheating the cooled flattened and folded pipe to render it pliable; and
- coiling means for coiling the pliable flattened and folded pipe for storage.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said coiling means comprises a spool, housing means enclosing the spool, said housing means having means including door means for spooling and removing strip material from the spool, heater means for heating the interior of the housing to a temperature to render the spooled strip pliable, and air circulation means to distribute heat substantially evenly throughout the interior of housing.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 2 including means mounting the housing means for movement from one job site to another.
- 4. An apparatus for manufacturing a length of substantially rigid thermoplastic liner in a reduced flattened and folded form wherein all cross-sectional dimensions are less than the diameter of the liner when in a tubular form, comprising:
- extruder means for extruding a thermoplastic material into a length of liner having a hollow substantially tubular cross-section; and
- shaping means including vacuum for reshaping the extruded tubular thermoplastic liner from the tubular form to a desired reduced flattened and folded form with all dimensions less than when in the tubular form and for maintaining the reduced form,
- pulling means for pulling the liner from the shaping means, and
- coiling means for coiling the liner in reduced flattened and folded form for storage, whereby the liner maintains the reduced form when subsequently reheated to render the liner pliable.
- 5. The apparatus for manufacturing a length of liner of claim 4, wherein the calibrator means includes a plurality of calibrator plates having aligned openings for shaping the extruded material to the desired reduced form.
- 6. The apparatus for manufacturing a length of liner of claim 5, wherein the opening in each calibrator plate includes a short leg and a long leg and a rounded fold portion therebetween.
- 7. The apparatus for manufacturing a length of liner of claim 4, further including pressure means for maintaining the shape of the extruded material in the calibrator means.
- 8. The apparatus for manufacturing a length of liner of claim 7, wherein the pressure means is an external partial vacuum on the extruded liner.
- 9. The apparatus for manufacturing a length of liner of claim 7, wherein the pressure means is a source of compressed fluid injected into the interior passages of the extruded liner.
- 10. The apparatus for manufacturing a length of liner of claim 4, including cooling means for cooling the liner.
- 11. The apparatus for manufacturing a length of liner of claim 4, further including means for pulling the thermoplastic material from the calibrator means after it has been shaped to the desired reduced form.
- 12. The apparatus for manufacturing a length of liner of claim 11, wherein the means for pulling includes rollers.
- 13. The apparatus for manufacturing a length of liner of claim 10, further including reheating means for reheating the cooled liner in reduced flattened and folded form after removal from the cooling means to render the liner pliable for placing into a form suitable for storage.
- 14. The apparatus for manufacturing a length of liner in claim 13, wherein the reheating means includes a steam chamber.
- 15. The apparatus for manufacturing a length of liner in claim 13, further including means for storing the reheated liner in a layered condition.
- 16. The apparatus for manufacturing a length of liner of claim 13, further including spooling means for spooling the pliable material in reduced form.
- 17. An apparatus for manufacturing a length of substantially rigid polyvinyl chloride pipe in a reduced flattened and folded form wherein all cross-sectional dimensions of the pipe are less than the diameter of the pipe when in a tubular form, which pipe must be heated to a temperature sufficient to render it pliable, comprising:
- extruder means for extruding a polyvinyl chloride material into a length of pipe having a substantially hollow tubular cross-section;
- shaping means and vacuum means for reshaping the polyvinyl chloride pipe at a temperature sufficient to make the pipe pliable from the extruded tubular form to a desired reduced flattened and folded form having dimensions less than when in the tubular form after exiting the extruder means and for maintaining the reshaped pipe in the reduced form; and
- coiling means for coiling the pipe in reduced form for storage, whereby the pipe maintains the reduced form when subsequently reheated to a temperature sufficient to render the pipe pliable.
