Claims
- 1. An apparatus for processing a warp sheet of yarns comprising
- means for advancing the warp sheet along a path of travel while drawing the warp sheet,
- heating means positioned along the path of travel for applying heat to the advancing warp sheet, and including at least one heated surface extending transversely across the warp sheet, and
- control means for selectively terminating the advance of the warp sheet upon a yarn break or the like, and including heat interruption means for selectively interrupting the application of heat from said heated surface to the warp sheet upon the termination of the advance, said heat interruption means including a cover having a width which is at least equal to the length of said one heated surface, and means mounting said cover for movement between an inoperative position wherein the warp sheet is in contact with the surface of said one heated surface and an operative position wherein the cover is disposed between said heated surface and the warp sheet, and such that movement of said cover from said inoperative position to said operative position acts to lift the warp sheet from contact with said one heated surface.
- 2. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 wherein said one heated surface is a roll which extends transversely across the warp sheet, and said cover has an arcuate curvature in cross section which is similar to the curvature of the outer periphery of said one heated roll, and with said cover being mounted for pivotal movement about an axis parallel to the axis of said heated roll.
- 3. The apparatus as defined in claim 2 wherein the contact between the warp sheet and the surface of said roll defines a looping angle of the warp sheet about said roll, and wherein said cover has an angular extent which is somewhat greater than said looping angle.
- 4. The apparatus as defined in claim 3 wherein the pivotal axis of said cover is coincident with the axis of the associated roll.
- 5. The apparatus as defined in claim 3 wherein the pivotal axis of said cover is spaced from the axis of said roll and is located in a plane which is defined by the axis of said one heated roll and the bisector of the angle formed by said looping angle of the warp sheet on the surface of said roll.
- 6. The apparatus as defined in claim 2 wherein said cover includes a heat insulating material.
- 7. The apparatus as defined in claim 2 wherein said cover comprises a reflective inner layer, an insulating intermediate layer, and a wear resistant outer layer.
- 8. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 wherein said one heated surface is a roll which extends transversely across the warp sheet, and said cover is formed of flexible sheet material.
- 9. The apparatus as defined in claim 8 wherein said cover has a leading edge which is disposed in a direction parallel to the axis of said heated roll, and wherein in said inoperative position said leading edge is disposed adjacent the nip formed between the surface of said roll and the warp sheet, and wherein said means mounting said cover includes drive means for advancing said leading edge of said cover into said nip upon the commencement of the termination of the advance of the warp sheet and so that the leading edge is clamped between the surface of the heated roll and the warp sheet and the cover is then moved to said operative position.
- 10. An apparatus for processing a warp sheet of yarns comprising
- means for advancing the warp sheet along a path of travel while drawing the warp sheet and including a pair of spaced apart guide rolls,
- heating means positioned along the path of travel for applying heat to the advancing warp sheet, and including a heated surface fixedly mounted between said guide rolls, and
- control means for selectively terminating the advance of the warp sheet upon a yarn break or the like, and including heat interruption means for interrupting the application of heat from said heated surface to the warp sheet upon the termination of the advance, said heat interruption means including a cover overlying a portion of the outer periphery of each of said guide rolls, with each cover having an arcuate curvature in cross section which is similar to the curvature of the outer periphery of the associated roll, and with the two covers being mounted for pivotal movement about an axis parallel to the axis of the associated roll so as to be movable between an inoperative position wherein the warp sheet is in contact with the periphery of the rollers and is closely adjacent said heated surface, and an operative position wherein the warp sheet is in contact with the covers and is separated from the surface of the rolls and the heated surface.
- 11. The apparatus as defined in claim 10 wherein at least one of said guide rolls is heated.
