Claims
- 1. An apparatus for processing an animal carcass half and separating at least the loin thereof, said apparatus comprising:
- a frame for elevating a working surface a distance above a support surface;
- a loin separator knife assembly carried by said frame at a selected location, said loin separator knife assembly providing for adjustment of depth and width of cut of a loin knife blade;
- a conveyor belt assembly carried by said frame having a conveyor belt for conveying the carcass half toward said selected location to engage said loin knife blade;
- a carcass gripper assembly carried by said frame for gripping the carcass half and forcing the carcass half against said conveyor belt and toward said selected location, said carcass gripper having a roller assembly proximate said selected location, said roller assembly mounted on a biased lever arm to maintain a roller of said roller assembly against the carcass half; and
- a scribe saw assembly mounted on said lever arm of said roller assembly whereby said scribe saw assembly moves vertically as said roller of said roller assembly moves vertically, said scribe saw assembly having a saw blade for cutting through at least a portion of the carcass half, said scribe saw assembly provided with means for positioning said saw blade in alignment with a portion of said loin knife blade whereby said loin knife blade passes through the carcass half at a kerf created by said saw blade.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said scribe saw assembly includes a fluid-operated motor to rotate said saw blade, and wherein said motor is carried on brackets attached to said lever arm.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein said means for positioning said saw blade is a fluid-operated cylinder connected between said motor and said lever arm, and wherein said brackets permit lateral movement of said motor with respect to said lever arm during operation of said fluid-operated cylinder.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a guide plate along said work surface extending substantially from a feed end to said selected location to orient the carcass half as an operator causes the carcass half to enter said apparatus.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said carcass gripper assembly includes a plurality of chain members and at least two sprocket members carrying said chain members, said chain members having chain links defining an endless loop configuration engaged with said sprocket members, a portion of said chain links carrying extended portions to engage the carcass half, said chain members being moved to assist in moving the carcass half toward said loin knife blade.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 5 further comprising biasing means for biasing each of said chain members toward the carcass half, said biasing means including at least one idler wheel positioned against said chain members and spring biasing means interposed between said idler wheel and said frame.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising:
- a frame extension attached to said frame for elevating a further working surface said distance above said support surface;
- a further conveyor belt carried by said frame extension for conveying a loin-depleted carcass half after engagement with said loin knife blade;
- a further carcass gripper assembly carried by said frame extension for gripping the loin-depleted carcass half and forcing the loin-depleted carcass half against said further conveyor belt and moving the loin-depleted carcass half in cooperation with said further conveyor belt toward a second selected location;
- pressure means carried by said frame extension for being biased against the loin-depleted carcass half to flatten ribs of the loin-depleted carcass half; and
- a further knife assembly carried by said frame extension at said second selected location to separate ribs flattened by said pressure means from a fat layer between the ribs and said further conveyor belt.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 7 wherein said pressure means is a roller for bearing against the ribs, and biasing means cooperatively connected between said roller and said frame extension to apply pressure to said roller to flatten the ribs.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 8 wherein said further working surface of said frame extension is provided with a concave recess beneath said roller whereby said roller presses the loin-depleted carcass half into said concave recess to flatten the ribs of the loin-depleted carcass half prior to advancement by said further conveyor belt to said further knife assembly to separate the ribs.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 7 wherein said further carcass gripper assembly includes a further chain member carried on at least two further sprocket members, said further chain member having chain links defining an endless loop configuration engaged with said sprocket members, a portion of said chain links carrying extended portions to engage the loin-depleted carcass half.
- 11. An apparatus for processing an animal carcass half and separating at least the loin thereof, said apparatus comprising:
- a frame for elevating a working surface a distance above a support surface, said frame having a carcass inlet end and a carcass outlet end;
- a loin separator knife assembly carried at a selected location on said frame proximate said carcass outlet end, said loin separator knife assembly providing for adjustment of depth and width of cut of a loin knife blade;
- a conveyor belt assembly carried by said frame having a conveyor belt for conveying the carcass half toward said selected location to engage said loin knife blade;
- a carcass gripper assembly carried by said frame for gripping the carcass half and forcing the carcass half against said conveyor belt and toward said selected location, said carcass gripper having at least one roller mounted on a lever arm proximate said selected location and having at least one loop configuration chain member with biasing means to cause said at least one roller and said at least one chain member to press the carcass half against said conveyor belt, said chain member having a plurality of chain links, at least a portion of said chain links having extended portions to engage the carcass half; and
- a scribe saw assembly mounted on said lever arm of said at least one roller, said scribe saw assembly having a saw blade for cutting through at least a portion of the carcass half, said scribe saw assembly provided with means for positioning said saw blade in alignment with a portion of said loin knife blade whereby said loin knife blade passes through the carcass half at a kerf created by said saw blade.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 11 wherein said scribe saw apparatus is provided with a motor mounted from said lever arm with brackets, wherein said means for positioning said saw blade is a fluid-operated cylinder connected between said motor and said lever arm, and wherein said brackets permit lateral movement of said motor with respect to said lever arm during operation of said fluid-operated cylinder.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 11 further comprising a guide plate along said work surface extending substantially from said inlet end to said selected location to orient the carcass half as an operator causes the carcass half to enter said loin puller apparatus.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 11 further comprising:
- a frame extension attached to said frame for elevating a further working surface said distance above said support surface;
- a further conveyor belt assembly carried by said frame extension for conveying a loin-depleted carcass half after engagement with said loin knife blade;
- a further carcass gripper assembly carried by said frame extension for gripping the loin-depleted carcass half and forcing the loin-depleted carcass half against said further conveyor belt and moving the loin-depleted carcass half in cooperation with said further conveyor belt toward a second selected location;
- a pressure roller biased against the loin-depleted carcass half to flatten ribs of the loin-depleted carcass half; and
- a further knife assembly carried by said frame extension at said second selected location to separate ribs flattened by said pressure roller from a fat layer between the ribs and said further conveyor belt.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 14 wherein said further working surface is provided with a concave depression to cooperate with said pressure roller for flattening the ribs prior to advancement of the loin-depleted carcass half to said further knife assembly to separate the ribs.
- 16. The apparatus of claim 14 wherein said further carcass gripper assembly includes a further chain member carried on at least two further sprocket members, said further chain member having chain links defining an endless loop configuration engaged with said sprocket members, a portion of said chain links carrying extended portions to engage the loin-depleted carcass half.
- 17. An apparatus for processing an animal carcass half and separating the loin and ribs thereof, said apparatus comprising:
- a frame and a frame extension for elevating a working surface and a further working surface a distance above a support surface, said frame having a carcass inlet end and a carcass outlet end;
- a loin separator knife assembly carried at a selected location on said frame proximate said carcass outlet end, said loin separator knife assembly providing for adjustment of depth and width of cut of a loin knife blade;
- a conveyor belt assembly carried by said frame having a conveyor belt for conveying the carcass half toward said selected location to engage said loin knife blade;
- a carcass gripper assembly carried by said frame for gripping the carcass half and forcing the carcass half against said conveyor belt and toward said selected location, said carcass gripper having a plurality of rollers mounted on biased lever arms from said frame, at least one roller mounted on a lever arm proximate said selected location, said carcass gripper assembly further having at least one loop configuration chain member carried on sprocket members, said plurality of rollers provided with biasing means to cause said roller and said at least one chain member to press the carcass half against said conveyor belt, said chain member having a plurality of chain links, at least a portion of said chain links having extended portions to engage the carcass half;
- a scribe saw assembly mounted on said lever arm of said at least one roller proximate said selected location, said scribe saw assembly having a motor mounted with brackets from said lever arm, said brackets providing for lateral movement of said motor relative to said lever arm, said motor connected to a saw blade for cutting through at least a portion of the carcass half, said scribe saw assembly provided with fluid-operated cylinder means connected between said motor and said lever arm for positioning said saw blade in alignment with a portion of said loin knife blade whereby said loin knife blade passes through the carcass at a kerf created by said saw blade;
- a further conveyor belt carried by said frame extension for conveying a loin-depleted carcass half after engagement with said loin knife blade;
- a further carcass gripper assembly carried by said frame extension for gripping the loin-depleted carcass half and forcing the loin-depleted carcass half against said further conveyor belt and moving the loin-depleted carcass half in cooperation with said further conveyor belt toward a second selected location;
- a pressure roller biased against ribs of the loin-depleted carcass half to flatten the ribs of the loin-depleted carcass half; and
- a further knife assembly carried by said frame extension at said second selected location to separate ribs flattened by said pressure roller from a fat layer between the ribs and said further conveyor belt.
- 18. The apparatus of claim 17 further comprising a guide plate along said work surface extending substantially from a feed end to said selected location to orient the carcass half as an operator causes the carcass half to enter said apparatus.
- 19. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein said further working surface is provided with a concave depression to cooperate with said pressure roller for flattening the ribs prior to advancement of the loin-depleted carcass half by said further conveyor belt to said further knife assembly to separate the ribs.
- 20. An apparatus for processing an animal carcass half and separately separating the loin and ribs thereof, said apparatus comprising:
- a frame for elevating a working surface a distance above a support surface;
- a loin separator knife assembly carried by said frame at a selected location, said loin separator knife assembly providing for adjustment of depth and width of cut of a loin knife blade;
- a conveyor belt assembly carried by said frame having a conveyor belt for conveying the carcass half toward said selected location to engage said loin knife blade;
- a carcass gripper assembly carried by said frame for gripping the carcass half and forcing the carcass half against said conveyor belt and toward said selected location, said carcass gripper having a roller assembly proximate said selected location;
- a scribe saw assembly mounted proximate said roller assembly having a saw blade for cutting through at least a portion of the carcass half, said scribe saw assembly provided with means for positioning said saw blade in alignment with a portion of said loin knife blade whereby said loin knife blade passes through the carcass half at a kerf created by said saw blade;
- a frame extension attached to said frame for elevating a further working surface said distance above said support surface;
- a further conveyor belt carried by said frame extension for conveying a loin-depleted carcass half after engagement with said loin knife blade;
- a further carcass gripper assembly carried by said frame extension for gripping the loin-depleted carcass half and forcing the loin-depleted carcass half against said further conveyor belt and moving the loin-depleted carcass half in cooperation with said further conveyor belt toward a second selected location;
- pressure means carried by said frame extension for being biased against the loin-depleted carcass half to flatten ribs of the loin-depleted carcass half; and
- a further knife assembly carried by said frame extension at said second selected location to separate ribs flattened by said pressure means from a fat layer between the ribs and said further conveyor belt.
- 21. An apparatus for processing an animal carcass half and separating at least the loin thereof, said apparatus comprising:
- a frame for elevating a working surface a distance above a support surface;
- a loin separator knife assembly carried by said frame at a selected location, said loin separator knife assembly providing for adjustment of depth and width of cut of a loin knife blade;
- a conveyor belt assembly carried by said frame having a conveyor belt for conveying the carcass half toward said selected location to engage said loin knife blade;
- a carcass gripper assembly carried by said frame for gripping the carcass half and forcing the carcass half against said conveyor belt and toward said selected location, said carcass gripper having a roller assembly proximate said selected location;
- a scribe saw assembly having a saw blade for cutting through at least a portion of the carcass half, said scribe saw assembly mounted proximate said loin separator knife assembly and provided with means for positioning said saw blade vertically with regard to said carcass half and laterally in alignment with a portion of said loin knife blade whereby said loin knife blade passes through the carcass half at a kerf created by said saw blade; and
- a user operated controller means connected to said scribe saw assembly means to selectively effect said lateral and vertical positioning of said scribe saw blade.
- 22. The apparatus of claim 21 wherein said controller means is provided with switches for selectively controlling vertical and lateral movement of said scribe saw assembly.
- 23. The apparatus of claim 21 wherein said controller means is provided with a computer control for selectively controlling vertical and lateral movement of said scribe saw assembly.
