Claims
- 1. In the apparatus for the continuous production of rectangular foam slabs by foaming a reaction mixture, the apparatus having a conveyor belt for the reaction mixture, a system operatively associated with said conveyor belt for mixing the reaction mixture and feeding it to the belt, a pair of vertical webs as sidewalls for the lateral confinement of the rectangular foam slab resulting upon foaming of the reaction mixture while on the belt, a floor web on the conveyor belt and and a cover web for the foam slab, the improvement which comprises means operatively associated with said belt for removing said cover web from a foam surface downstream of the feeding system, means operatively associated with said conveyor belt for twice reversing the direction of advance of said removed cover so as to form a loop, and means operatively associated with said conveyor belt for advancing the twice reversed cover web to serve as the floor web for subsequently fed reaction mixture.
- 2. An apparatus according to claim 1, including a pair of horizontal height control members extending transversely of the foam surface, and means operatively associated with said control members for adjusting the vertical location of said control members, said cover web being trained about said control members with one located approximately after where the foam starts rising and the other where the foam has reached its full height.
- 3. An apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said control members range in length from the width of the cover web down to about 15 to 25 cm shorter than the width of the cover web.
- 4. An apparatus according to claim 1, including means for heating the cover web before it contacts the foam surface.
- 5. An apparatus according to claim 1, including means for heating the cover web after it has been removed from the foam surface but before it has become the floor web, thereby to dry any foam contained thereon.
- 6. An apparatus according to claim 3, including means for heating the cover web before it contacts the foam surface, and means for heating the cover web after it has been removed from the foam surface but before it has become the floor web, thereby to dry any foam contained thereon.
