Claims
- 1. A disk drive apparatus of the type that receives a removable disk cartridge, comprising:
- a slide plate slidably mounted on a chassis of said disk drive apparatus, said slide plate engaging said removable disk cartridge and moving in tandem therewith from a first position to a second position upon insertion of the disk cartridge into the disk drive apparatus,
- said slide plate having at least one flexure that has a projection formed thereon, said at least one flexure moving from a position away from said cartridge, to a position adjacent said cartridge as the cartridge and slide plate move in tandem upon insertion of the disk cartridge into the disk drive apparatus, the projection on said at least one flexure moving into engagement with a reference hole on said cartridge as said slide plate reaches said second position thereof;
- a first spring biasing said slide plate in a direction toward said first position and opposite the direction of insertion of said removable disk cartridge,
- wherein as said slide plate moves in tandem with the disk cartridge toward said second position, each of said at least one flexure travels along a respective inclined cam slot provided in said chassis within said disk drive apparatus to drive each respective one of said projections through a cutout in said chassis and into engagement with respective reference holes on the cartridge.
- 2. The disk drive apparatus as recited in claim 1, further comprising:
- a motor ring assembly mounted on the chassis and comprising a rotating member that rotates between an unloaded position and a loaded position, said rotating member having a first cam surface that engages said projection on said slide plate when said slide plate is in said first position and said rotating member is in said unloaded position to prevent said rotating member from rotating toward said loaded position, and said rotating member having a second cam surface that engages said second projection on said slide plate when said slide plate is in said second position and said rotating member is in said loaded position to lock the slide plate in said second position; and
- a second spring biasing said rotating member in a direction of rotation toward said loaded position.
- 3. The slide plate as recited in claim 2, wherein movement of the slide plate from said first position to said second position upon insertion of the removable disk cartridge into said disk drive apparatus causes said second projection on said slide plate to move past said first cam surface of said rotating member, thereby freeing said rotating member and allowing said rotating member to rotate under the force of said second spring from said unloaded position to said loaded position and causing said second cam surface of the rotating member to move into engagement with said second projection on said slide plate to lock the slide plate in said second position.
- 4. The slide plate as recited in claim 1, said first biasing spring being attached at one end to a hook on said chassis and at the other end to a hook on said slide plate, wherein said first biasing spring biases said slide plate in a direction toward said first position.
- 5. The slide plate as recited in claim 1, said slide plate comprising a plurality of legs that extend in a direction lengthwise of said disk drive apparatus, said plurality of legs each comprising tabs formed at a proximal end thereof.
- 6. The slide plate as recited in claim 5, said chassis comprising slots formed within said chassis, wherein each one of said tabs extends through a respective one of said slots to hold a rear of said slide plate on the chassis.
- 7. The slide plate as recited in claim 5, each of said legs of said slide plate having a cartridge engaging hook that extends through a respective cut-out in said chassis to engage a respective angled outer edge on a forward end face of the removable disk cartridge.
- 8. The slide plate as recited in claim 7, wherein said slide plate and said engaging hooks define an eject member for receiving and ejecting the removable disk cartridge to and from the disk drive apparatus.
- 9. The slide plate as recited in claim 1, said chassis comprising tabs which overlap respective edges of a plurality of legs of said slide plate.
- 10. The slide plate as recited in claim 1, wherein each of said projections and said respective reference holes on the cartridge are synchronized to come together just as the cartridge reaches said second position.
- 11. The slide plate as recited in claim 1, wherein said projection of said at least one flexure rides along a corresponding cam slot on said chassis to move said at least one flexure vertically during cartridge insertion and ejection.
