The present disclosure relates to an apparatus for receiving and sending a parcel by drone.
Drone delivery is becoming more practical for express industry. In order to help user receiving and sending parcel delivered by drone, one existent method is engaging/disengaging parcel via drone on a platform installed outside a balcony or under a windowsill of a building such as a house or a flat. The platform is also accessible to user staying in the building for fetching or placing parcel. However, in the process of parcel being engaged/disengaged by drone, there is a chance of physical contact between user and drone due to failure occurring to drone or due to user's improper behavior, which will cause potential safety hazard for user.
As such, the present disclosure proposes a relatively safe apparatus for receiving and sending a parcel delivered by drone.
An apparatus for receiving and sending a parcel delivered by a drone is provided, which includes: a base assembly, configured to be mounted on a building, the base assembly comprising a platform, in which the platform includes a working surface capable of being horizontally placed; the working surface further includes an operating area for the drone to disengage or engage the parcel; and a barrier assembly, including a barrier plate movable with respect to the base assembly, in a horizontal state of the working surface, the barrier plate is enabled to be disposed close to an edge of the working surface and between the building and the operating area to separate the operating area from the other side of the barrier plate where the user stays.
To better explain the embodiments of the present disclosure or the technical solutions of the prior art, the following will briefly introduce the drawings involved in the description of the embodiments or the prior art.
For better appreciation of the present disclosure, relevant drawings are referred to with the present disclosure described hereinafter.
As shown in
The base assembly 100 can be mounted on the exterior surface of the building 20 and provides a place for drone to land and for parcel to be placed. Since drone also can disengage or engage parcel when hovering at low height over the base assembly 100, it can be appreciated that it is not necessary for drone to land on the base assembly 100, such that the place provided by the base assembly 100 can be applicable only for parcel placement. The base assembly 100 includes a bracket 110 and a platform 120.
The bracket 110 is configured to be supporting structure of the apparatus 10 and enabled to be mounted on the building 20. In some of the embodiments, the bracket 110 includes two bars 112 which are spaced and paralleled, both of which can be mounted on the building 20.
The platform 120 is mounted on the bracket 110. The platform 120 has a working surface 122 which provides an operating area for drone to disengage or engage parcel. Specifically, in some of the embodiments, the platform 120 is a substantially square board, with the operating area on the working surface 122.
Specifically, one edge of the platform 120 is pivoted to the bracket 110. The base assembly 100 further includes at least one actuator 130 for driving rotation of platform 120, which is a telescopic actuator. Each end of the actuator 130 is pivoted to the bracket 110 and to the platform 120 respectively. In some of the embodiments, the platform 120 is rotatably connected to both of the bars 112.
Specifically, the actuator 130 is a telescopic hydraulic cylinder or a motorized linear actuator. In addition to being a telescopic actuator, the actuator 130 also can be a stepping motor for driving rotation of platform 120.
The bracket 110 is not limited to be bars 112, in alternative embodiments, the bracket 110 may be a plate-like structure, a frame-like structure, or the like.
The main controller 200 is configured to control the operation of the apparatus 10 by receiving signals from either drone or user's digital device such as a mobile phone or a computer. Besides, the electric control 200 can transmit signal to drone so that the drone can approach, disengage or engage parcel based on the signal received, or the main controller 200 can transmit signal to user's digital device so that the user can fetch or place parcel based on the signal received. In some of the embodiments, the main controller 200 can be mounted on one of the bars 112, the platform 120, the building 20, or the like.

When the barrier plate 310 is close to the edge of the horizontal working surface 122 and between the building 20 and the operating area, the barrier plate may be vertically positioned. When the barrier plate 310 is positioned right above the operating area on the horizontal working surface 122, the barrier surface 314 may be facing to and paralleled to the working surface 122.
An operation method of the barrier plate 310 is described as below. Before drone arrived in the operating area, the barrier plate 310 automatically moves to the position close to the edge of the working surface 122 and between the building 20 and the operating area, in order to separate the operating area from the other side of the barrier plate 310 where the user stays. After drone disengages parcel and flies away from the operating area, or before user places parcel in the operating area, the barrier plate 310 automatically moves to the position right above the operating area, so as the user to fetch or place parcel.
In some of the embodiments, the barrier plate 310 can rotate so that the barrier plate 310 can be positioned close to the edge of the working surface 122 and can be positioned right above the operating area. The barrier plate has a connecting end and a free end. The connecting end of the barrier plate 310 is pivoted to the bracket 110. By rotation of barrier plate 310, the free end can be positioned higher than the connecting end such that the barrier plate 310 separates the operating area from the other side of the barrier plate 310 where the user stays.
Further, the working surface 122 may be vertical or tilted by rotation of the platform 120, allowing the platform 120 to closely approach the building 20, and the connecting end of the barrier plate 310 may be higher than the free end of the barrier plate 310 by rotation of the barrier plate 310, allowing the barrier plate 310 to closely approach the platform when the working surface 122 is vertical or tilted. Under such condition, the platform 120 is between the barrier plate 310 and the building 20, when the apparatus 10 is on standby as shown in

The apparatus 10 further includes at least one actuator 500 for driving rotation of the barrier plate 310, which is a telescopic actuator. Each end of the actuator 500 is pivoted to the bracket 110 and to the barrier plate 310 respectively. Specifically, the actuator 500 is a telescopic hydraulic cylinder or a motorized linear actuator. In addition to being a telescopic actuator, the actuator 500 also can be a stepping motor for driving rotation of platform 120.
It can be appreciated that in some other embodiments, the platform 120 is fixed to the bracket 110 and cannot rotate. Under such condition, the working surface 122 may keep being horizontally positioned.
The lift table 400 can be mounted on the platform 120 and can be further positioned in the operating area. The lift table 400 is configured to hold and lift parcel.
In some of the embodiments, the lift table 400 is electrically connected with the main controller 200, and the main controller 200 can control the lift table 400 to raise or lower parcel.
In some of the embodiments, the platform 120 is provided with a hollow 124 in the operating area to accommodate the lift table 400. The lift table 400 is higher than the working area 122 when it fully rises.
Referring to
The motorized linear actuator 420 can drive the scissors mechanism 410 to rise and down. And the motorized linear actuator 420 is electrically connected with the main controller 200 to receive control signal from the controller 200.
In some of the embodiments, the apparatus 10 further includes a weight sensor 600 installed in the lift table 400 and electrically connected with the main controller 200. The weight sensor 600 can detect and measure weight of parcel on the lift table 400. Furthermore, the main controller 200 can control the lift table 400 lift up or lift down based on data sent from the weight sensor 600. For example, the data sent from the weight sensor 600 changes on the condition that parcel is put on the lift table 400 or took from the lift table 400, such that the main controller 200 controls the lift table 400 to lift down.
In some of the embodiments, the barrier assembly 300 further includes a sensor 700 electrically connected with the main controller 200. The sensor 700 can detect whether the door 320 closes the opening 312. If the door 320 dose not close the opening 312, the main controller 200 may transmit the signal to stop drone approaching. Furthermore, the main controller 200 can control the lift table 400 to lift up or lift down according to the state of the door 320. In some of the embodiments, the sensor 700 can be a contact switch.
In some of the embodiments, the main controller 200 can control the actuator 130 to drive rotation of the platform 120 according to both data from the weight sensor 600 and the state of the door 320. For example, when the parcel is fetched from the operating area, the weight of the parcel on the lift table 400 is turning to zero. Under such condition, if the door 320 dose not close the opening 312, the main controller 200 control the actuator 130 not to drive the platform 120 rotating; if the door 320 does close the opening 312, the main controller 200 control the actuator 130 to drive the platform 120 rotating so as to fold the apparatus 10 and to enable the platform 120 closely on the building 20.
Further, the barrier assembly 300 includes an alarm 800, which can remind user to close the opening 312 if user forgets to close the opening 312 after fetching or placing the parcel. The alarm 800 is electrically connected with the main controller 200 to receive control signal from the main controller 200. In some of the embodiments, the alarm 800 is installed on the barrier plate 310. It can be appreciated that in some other embodiments, if the door 320 is opened and closed automatically, the alarm 800 may be optional.
Further, one or more markers 316 for drone vision navigation are disposed on the barrier surface 314. The number of the markers 316 can be set as required. Optionally, the markers 316 can be set as Aruco markers. When the barrier plate 310 is positioned close to the edge of the horizontal working surface 122 and at least part of the barrier plate is higher than the horizontal working surface 122, the markers 316 are visible to the drone which is approaching the operating area; when the barrier plate 310 is positioned right above the operating area and sheltering the operating area, the markers 316 are invisible to the drone nearby.
The characteristics and benefits of the apparatus 10 are listed as below:
(1) The barrier plate 310 is movable and is enabled to be positioned between the building 20 and the operating area to separate drone from user, which help reducing the risk of user hurt by drone, or reducing the risk of drone damaged by user. Besides, the barrier plate 310 can block the noise to spread from drone to the interior of the building 20.
(2) The barrier plate 310 is enabled to be positioned right above the operating area, thereby sheltering the operating area from rain or snow in order to avoid parcel in the operating area rained on or snowed on, and preventing unauthorized drone from accessing to the operating area.
(3) The platform 120 is enabled to closely approach the building 20, and the barrier plate 310 is enabled to closely approach the working surface 122. As such, the apparatus 10 can be folded to minimize the height over the exterior surface of the building 20 when is on standby, thereby lowering the impact on apparatus 10 from storm and strong wind. Besides, the platform 120 is between the barrier plate 310 and the building 20, enabling the barrier plate 310 to cover the working surface 122, which help keeping the working surface 122 clean and undamaged.
(4) The lift table 400 can rise to hold parcel disengaged by drone to avoid parcel falling on the working surface 122 directly, and to raise parcel enabling drone to engage. Additionally, the lift table 400 facilitate user to fetch and place parcel if the working surface 122 is too low for user's hand to reach.
It can be appreciated that, in some of the embodiments, the bracket 110 can be optional, and thus the barrier plate 310 and the platform 120 can be mounted on the building 20 directly, one end of the actuator 130 and one end of the actuator 500 are both connected to the building 20. In some other embodiments, the opening 312 and the door 320 may be optional, and thus user can fetch or place parcel through the gap between the barrier plate 310 and the building 20 when the barrier plate 310 is positioned right above the operating area. In still some other embodiments, the lift table 400 is optional and the apparatus 10 cannot lift parcel. In still some other embodiments, the vision markers 316 may be optional.
