Claims
- 1. An information recording-reproducing apparatus comprising:
- a light source;
- lens means for imaging the light beam from said light source on an optical information recording medium;
- photodetector means for receiving the light from said recording medium and outputting a plurality of types of signals;
- detector means for detecting a mark indicative of a reference position on said recording medium on the basis of the corresponding signal from said photodetector means and outputting a signal;
- means for initiating auto-tracking on the basis of the signal from said detector means;
- a tracking actuator for moving said lens means; and
- means for controlling said tracking actuator to start recording and reproduction of information from a predetermined position on the recording medium after the auto-tracking has been initiated.
- 2. An apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising means for confirming the mark indicative of the reference position and outputting a signal after the auto-tracking has been initiated and wherein said recording reproduction starting means starts recording and reproduction from said predetermined position on the basis of the signal from said confirming means.
- 3. An apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said recording-reproduction starting means starts recording from a recording portion skipped over a predetermined number of tracking tracks from a recording portion on which the mark indicative of the reference position confirmed by said confirming means is provided.
- 4. An apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said confirming means controls said tracking actuator when it cannot confirm the mark indicative of the reference position, thereby causing said detector means to detect said mark in the next adjacent recording portion.
- 5. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said recording-reproduction starting means controls said light source and effects recording.
- 6. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said recording-reproduction starting means effects reproduction on the basis of the corresponding signal from said photodetector means.
- 7. A method according to claim 1, wherein the light beam is first applied to a predetermined home position on the recording medium, and further comprising moving the light beam in the direction crossing the tracking tracks commencing from the home position.
- 8. A method according to claim 1, further comprising, after detection of the mark, scanning the recording area with the light beam to determine an end portion of the recording portions on which information has already been recorded, so as to begin recording of information from a position next to the end portion of the recording portions.
- 9. A method for effecting at least one of recording of information on and reproducing of information from an optical information recording medium that includes a plurality of rows of tracking tracks arranged in a track arrangement direction at predetermined intervals, a plurality of recording portions provided between the tracking tracks and on which information is recorded by application of a light beam thereto, a recording area including the plurality of tracking tracks and the plurality of recording portions int eh track arrangement direction, at least two guard tracks arranged in regions on either side of the recording area, the guard track regions being free from recording of information by application a light beam and an optically detectable mark provided outside of the recording area for distinguishing the guard tracks from the tracking tracks, said method comprising the steps of:
- applying a light beam to the recording medium;
- moving the light beam in a direction crossing the tracking tracks;
- detecting the mark from reflected light of the moving light beam; and
- moving the light beam to the target recording portion on the basis of a position on which the mark is detected, and effecting at least one of recording of information on and reproducing of information from the recording medium.
- 10. A method according to claim 9, wherein the detection signal level of the reflected light of the moving light beam varies whenever the light beam crosses the tracking tracks and the mark, and further comprising detecting the mark by measuring a period between points at which the detection signal level of the reflected light varies.
- 11. A method according to claim 9, further comprising scanning the mark with the light beam in the track arrangement direction, and verifying the mark by measuring a period during which the detection signal level of the reflected light of the light beam assumes a high level.
