Claims
- 1. An apparatus for refurbishing a thermoplastic drum, said drum being hollow and having a closed top, an open bottom, and side walls, a portion of said drum being damaged, said apparatus comprising:a template for said drum, said template being stationary with respect to said drum and having an exterior surface with dimensions sufficient to bear against the interior surface of said portion of said drum being damaged when said drum is pulled over said exterior surface of said template; and means for exerting a downward force on said drum and for pulling said drum downward over the exterior surface of said template to reshape said portion of said drum being damaged into the shape of the exterior surface of said template thereby substantially repairing said portion of said drum being damaged.
- 2. An apparatus for refurbishing a thermoplastic drum, said drum being hollow and having a closed top, an open bottom, and side walls, a portion of said drum being damaged, said apparatus comprising:a template for said drum, said template comprising a body having substantially the same shape and size as the desired refurbished shape and size of said drum; and means for radially engaging the lower area of the side walls of said drum and for pulling said drum downward over said body of said template to refurbish said portion of said drum being damaged into the shape of said body of said template.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein said template comprises on its upper surface an ejection cap separable from said body; and further comprisingan ejector positioned within said template and in engagement with said ejection cap, said ejector operational to cause said ejection cap to separate from the body in a direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of said template.
- 4. An apparatus for refurbishing a damaged thermoplastic drum comprising:means for heating said damaged thermoplastic drum until it reaches a softened state; a template having exterior dimensions substantially matching the desired interior dimensions of a refurbished thermoplastic drum and sufficient to bear against the interior surface of said damaged thermoplastic drum; means for drawing said damaged thermoplastic drum over said template by engaging the side walls of said damaged thermoplastic drum and for pulling said damaged thermoplastic drum downward over said template to reshape said damaged thermoplastic drum into the shape of said template thereby refurbishing said damaged portion of said drum; and means for removing said refurbished thermoplastic drum from said template.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 4, further comprising means for cooling said refurbished thermoplastic drum while on said template.
- 6. An apparatus for refurbishing a thermoplastic drum comprising:a template for said drum, said template comprising a body having substantially the same shape and size as the desired refurbished shape and size of said drum; and a plurality of tension arms and an inner radial support member and wherein the template is provided with cutouts to allow the tension arms to press against the support member, the tension arms and support member operable to engage a drum partially drawn over said template and draw the drum in a longitudinal direction down the template to a predetermined position.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein said template comprises on its upper surface an ejection cap separable from said body; and further comprisingan ejector positioned within said template and in engagement with said ejection cap, said ejector operational to cause said ejection cap to separate from the body in a direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of said template.
- 8. An apparatus for refurbishing a thermoplastic drum comprising:a template for said drum, said template comprising a body having substantially the same shape and size as the desired refurbished shape and size of said drum; and an upper surface comprising an ejection cap separable from said body; an ejector positioned within said template and in engagement with said ejection cap, said ejector operational to cause said ejection cap to separate from the body in a direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of said template; and a plurality of tension arms and an inner radial support member and wherein the template is provided with cutouts to allow the tension arms to press against the support member, the tension arms and support member operable to engage a drum partially drawn over said template and draw the drum in a longitudinal direction down the template to a predetermined position.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein said ejector comprisesa pneumatic cylinder and piston, the piston comprising an upper end attached to the ejection cap, said cylinder capable of driving said piston and ejection cap in an upward direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of said template.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the template comprises a bottom with at least one opening therethrough, the ejector cap is provided with at least one hole therethrough, and the interior of the template comprises a channel connecting said opening to said hole thus allowing air to flow through said template.
