Claims
- 1. A light deflector for a circularly polarized light beam having a principal ray, comprising:
- optical means for emitting at least a linearly polarized light component of a first polarization direction from the circularly polarized light beam, the linearly polarized light component having a principal ray which coincides with the principal ray of said circularly polarized light beam;
- a first quarter-wave plate and a first reflector disposed in this order after said optical means such that said linearly polarized light component passes through said first quarter-wave plate to be reflected by said first reflector, and passes through said first quarter-wave plate again, thereby re-entering said optical means as linearly polarized light of a second polarization direction perpendicular to said first polarization direction, and
- rotation means for integrally rotating said optical means, said first quarter-wave plate and said first reflector around said principal ray of said circularly polarized light beam and said linearly polarized light beam.
- 2. The light deflector in accordance with claim 1, further comprising:
- a wave plate disposed on the object side of said optical means for converting the circularly polarized light beam to a linearly polarized light beam.
- 3. The light deflector in accordance with claim 2, wherein:
- said optical means comprises a polarization beam splitter for transmitting linearly polarized light having one of said first and second polarization directions and for deflecting linearly polarized light having the other of said first and second polarization directions.
- 4. The light deflector in accordance with claim 1, further comprising light shielding means for shielding one of:
- the linearly polarized light component of said first polarization direction and
- the linearly polarized light of said second polarization direction.
- 5. A light deflector for deflecting a circularly polarized light beam having a principal ray, comprising:
- deflection means having two reflecting planes facing each other at a predetermined angle, for deflecting a light beam at a predetermined deflection angle;
- conversion means for converting the circularly polarized light beam to a linearly polarized light beam; and
- rotation means for integrally rotating said deflection means and said conversion means around said principal ray of said circularly polarized light beam.
- 6. The light deflector in accordance with claim 5, wherein:
- said conversion means comprises a quarter wave plate.
- 7. The light deflector in accordance with claim 5, wherein:
- said conversion means comprises a polarization beam splitter for transmitting first linearly polarized light of a first polarization direction and for deflecting second linearly polarized light of a second polarization direction perpendicular to said first polarization direction.
