Claims
- 1. In an apparatus through which first and second superposed thin sheets of material are conveyed in intimate contact with each other for processing, the combination comprising:
- support means movable through the apparatus for supporting and conveying said superposed sheets through the apparatus;
- pick-off means cooperating with said support means to engage the top sheet and lift the same from the bottom sheet in response to relative movement between said pick-off means and said support means, and
- separator means on said support means interposed between adjacent portions of said first and second sheets to facilitate engagement and lifting of said top sheet by said pick-off means, said separator means comprising a member interposed only between the edges first engaging the pick-off means of said sheets supported on said support means, whereby said sheets are in intimate contact with each other over essentially all of their adjacent surfaces.
- 2. The invention as recited in claim 1 wherein said separator means comprises an elongated, flat compressible spacing member on said support means.
- 3. The invention as recited in claim 2 wherein said separator means further includes a thin, flexible member disposed atop said compressible spacing member and overhanging the same.
- 4. Apparatus for separating first and second superposed thin sheets of material comprising:
- support means for said superposed sheets;
- pick-off means cooperating with said support means to engage the top sheet and lift the same from the bottom sheet in response to relative movement between said pick-off means and said support means, said support means being reciprocally, rectilinearly movable with respect to said pick-off means; and
- separator means on said support means interposed between adjacent portions of said first and second sheets to facilitate engagement and lifting of said top sheet by said pick-off means.
- 5. The invention as recited in claim 1 further including cam means cooperating with said pick-off means and said support means to move said pick-off means into engagement with said top sheet for lifting the same.
- 6. The invention as recited in claim 1 in combination with a microfiche duplicator wherein said first and second sheets comprise copy and original sheets of microfiche.
- 7. Apparatus for separating a first thin sheet of material from direct superposition with a second thin sheet of material comprising:
- a support frame carrying said superposed thin sheets upon an upper surface thereof;
- pick-off means movable between a retracted position spaced from said upper surface of said frame and an extended position in close proximity thereto;
- spacing means on said frame interposed along the leading edges of said first and second sheets;
- said support frame and said pick-off means being movable relative each other; and
- cam means cooperating with said pick-off means and said support frame in response to relative movement therebetween to transpose said pick-off means [1] from said retracted position to said extended position for engaging said spacing means and riding under the leading edge of said first sheet and [2] from said extended position to said retracted position for lifting said first sheet from said second sheet and guiding the same from each other.
- 8. The invention as recited in claim 7 wherein said spacing means is formed of a material which is compressible by movement of said pick-off means to said extended position.
- 9. The invention as recited in claim 7 wherein said pick-off means comprises a generally triangular flat plate having an apex thereof disposed for selective engagement with said first sheet.
- 10. The invention as recited in claim 7 in combination with a microfiche duplicator wherein said first and second sheets comprise copy and original sheets of microfiche.
