Claims
- 1. An apparatus for the production of chlortetracycline-containing animal feed premix, said animal feed premix formulated from complexing fermentation-derived chlortetracycline with a complexing agent to obtain a wet filter cake, dried and admixed with an edible feed material, a mineral product, and an oil in ratios of sufficient quantity to produce the desired potency, the apparatus comprising:a fermentation tank holding a fermentation broth, comprising a fermentation medium and an inoculum with chlortetracycline-producing organism spores, said fermentation tank having an inlet to introduce an appropriate amount of fermentation medium, carbon, and nitrogen source materials, and oxygen for aeration; said fermentation tank further equipped with a mechanical impeller located within the tank for agitation to promote fermentation; and an outlet; a complexing tank comprising an inlet for receiving a first quantity of the fermentation broth from the outlet of said fermentation tank, said complexing tank further comprising an agitation system, an inlet for supplying controlled quantities of one or more chlortetracycline-complexing compounds and one or more bases to said first quantity of fermentation broth to produce a complexed fermentation broth, and an outlet; an acidification tank comprising an inlet for receiving a second quantity of the fermentation broth from the outlet of said fermentation tank, said acidification tank further comprising an agitation system, an inlet for supplying controlled quantities of one or more predetermined acids to said second quantity to produce acidified fermentation broth, and an outlet; a solid separation device for removing solids from the acidified fermentation broth, said solid separation device comprising an inlet for receiving the acidified fermentation broth from the acidification tank outlet, and an outlet for discharging a liquid containing dissolved chlortetracycline; a filtration pool tank comprising an inlet for receiving said liquid containing dissolved chlortetracycline from the outlet of said solid separation device, and an outlet; a first pump for directing said acidified fermentation broth from the outlet of said filtration pool tank to the inlet of said solid separation device; a precipitation tank, said precipitation tank having an inlet connected to the outlet of said filtration pool tank and an outlet, said liquid containing dissolved chlortetracycline is treated to precipitate the chlortetracycline, the outlet of the precipitation tank is connected to the inlet of the complexing tank to create a mixture of complexed fermentation broth and precipitated chlortetracycline; a second pump for directing liquid from the outlet of said filtration pool tank to the inlet of the precipitation tank; a liquid separation device for removing liquid from said mixture of complexed fermentation broth and precipitated chlortetracycline to produce a wet filter cake comprising complexed chlortetracycline, said liquid separation device comprising an inlet for receiving the mixture of complexed fermentation broth and precipitated chlortetracycline; and outlet for discharging the liquid and an outlet for the wet filter cake; a third pump for directing said mixture of complexed fermentation broth and precipitated chlortetracycline from the outlet of said complexing tank to the inlet of said liquid separation device; a transporter of said wet filter cake connected to the outlet of said liquid separation device; a dryer with an inlet for receiving said wet filter cake from said transporter, for drying said wet filter cake into a moist filter cake, said moist filter cake having moisture content suitable for sizing said moist filter cake into particles, and an outlet for discharging said moist filter cake; and a sizer for producing solid particles from said moist filter cake, with an inlet for receiving said moist filter cake from the outlet of the dryer, said solid particles from the moist filter cake having a predetermined size or range of sizes.
- 2. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said solid separation device comprises a filter press, a rotary vacuum filter or a centrifuge.
- 3. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said liquid separation device comprises a filter press, a rotary vacuum filter or a centrifuge.
- 4. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said complexing tank is connected to a source of complexing agents which include alkaline earth metal carbonates or basic alkaline earth metal compounds.
- 5. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said complexing tank is connected to a source of calcium carbonate.
- 6. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said complexing tank is connected to a source of aqueous ammonia.
- 7. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said acidification tank is connected to a source of mineral acid.
- 8. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said acidification tank is connected to a source of acid selected from the group consisting of oxalic acid, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and any combination thereof.
- 9. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said acidified fermentation broth is from pH 1.0 to pH 4.0.
- 10. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said liquid containing dissolved chlortetracycline is from pH 7.5 to pH 8.0.
- 11. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said dryer is one or more selected from the group consisting of an oven, tray dryer, tunnel dryer, spray dryer, spray granulator, fluid bed dryer, shelf dryer, drum dryer, rotary dryer, microwave dryer, and contact dryer.
- 12. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said solid particles include chlortetracycline in an amount from about 30% to about 75% by weight.
- 13. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said solid particles include chlortetracycline an amount from about 35% to about 65% by weight.
- 14. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said solid particles include chlortetracycline in an amount from about 44% to about 55% by weight.
- 15. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said solid particles are in the form of a powder, meal, pellets, granules or tablets.
- 16. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said dryer is a spray dryer or a tray dryer.
- 17. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said predetermined range of sizes of said solid particles is from about 212 microns to about 1 mm in diameter.
- 18. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said predetermined size of said solid particles is about 10 mesh or coarser.
- 19. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said sizer is selected from the group consisting of a grinder, a milling device, a screening device, a pulverizing device, a crushing device or a machining device.
- 20. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the apparatus does not include a compressing or compacting device to produce the solid particles.
- 21. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the sizer includes a compressing or compacting device.
- 22. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the sizer is connected to a source of water.
- 23. An apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising a blender connected to the sizer for mixing said solid particles with an edible feed material, a mineral product and an oil in ratios of sufficient quantity to produce a desired potency of feed premix.
- 24. An apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising a spray apparatus connected to the sizer for spraying said solid particles with oil.
- 25. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said feed premix has a standardized concentration of chlortetracycline.
- 26. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said feed premix includes chlortetracycline in a concentration from about 10 g/lb to 300 g/lb.
- 27. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said feed premix includes chlortetracycline in a concentration from about 90 g/lb to 200 g/lb.
- 28. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said feed premix when mixed with an animal feed results in an animal feed mix that includes chlortetracycline in a concentration from about 10 g/ton to 3000 g/ton.
- 29. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said feed premix when mixed with an animal feed results in an animal feed mix that includes chlortetracycline in a concentration from about 50 g/ton to 2000 g/ton.
- 30. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said feed premix when mixed with an animal feed results in an animal feed mix that includes chlortetracycline in a concentration from about 50 g/ton to 800 g/ton.
