Claims
- 1. An apparatus for forming oriented hollow articles of moldable organic plastic material which comprises: a temperature controlled first core and a temperature controlled first mold; means for providing an organic plastic parison on said first core in said first mold in a formable condition at a temperature substantially above that required for orientation of said plastic; means for rapidly altering the heat content of said parison on said first core in said first mold with an unequal distribution of temperature across the walls of said parison resulting and to result substantially in the heat content of said parison corresponding to an average temperature suited for orientation; a temperature controlled second core and second mold in spaced relationship to said first core and first mold; means to transfer said first core bearing said parison to said second mold; means for partially forming said parison located on said first core in said second mold to separate said parison from said first core and conform said parison to the shape of said second mold and to have an inside configuration shaped to permit insertion of said second core therein in substantially full contact therewith; means for separating said first core and second mold and partially formed parison contained therein; means for inserting the second core into the partially formed parison contained in the second mold; means for controlling the temperature of said parison in said second mold on said second core to substantially equalize the temperature distribution of said parison without substantially altering the heat content of the parison; a blow mold in spaced relationship to said second mold; means for transferring the partially formed parison to said blow mold; the means for fully expanding the partially formed parison in said blow mold.
- 2. An apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said second core is a blow core which expands the partially formed parison in said blow mold.
- 3. An apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said first core is a blow core which partially forms said parison in said second mold by expansion.
- 4. An apparatus according to claim 1 including a parison mold for forming said parison on said first core.
- 5. An apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said second core includes a mandrel extension and means for actuating said extension for axially extending said preformed parison so as to provide a final hollow article which is multi-axially oriented.
- 6. An apparatus according to claim 1 including means for providing a multilayered parison on said first core.
- 7. An apparatus according to claim 1 including means for maintaining said molds in integral spaced relationship and means for providing common reciprocation thereof.
- 8. An apparatus for forming oriented hollow articles of moldable organic plastic material which comprises: a temperature controlled first core and a temperature controlled first mold; means for providing an organic plastic parison on said first core in said first mold in a formable condition at a temperature substantially above that required for orientation of said plastic; means for rapidly altering the heat content of said parison on said first core in said first mold with an unequal distribution of temperature across the walls of said parison resulting and to result substantially in the heat content of said parison corresponding to an average temperature suited for orientation; a temperature controlled second mold and a second core in spaced relationship to said first mold and first core; means to transfer said first core bearing said parison to said second mold; means for conforming said parison to the shape of said second mold and to have an inside configuration shaped to permit insertion of said second core therein and for separating said parison from said first core; means for separating said first core and second mold and parison contained therein; means for inserting the second core into the parison contained in the second mold; means for controlling the temperature of said parison in said second mold on said second core to substantially equalize the temperature distribution of said parison without substantially altering the heat content of the parison; a blow mold in spaced relationship to said second mold; means for transferring the parison to said blow mold; and means for fully expanding the parison in said blow mold.
- 9. An apparatus according to claim 8 wherein said second core is capable of influencing the inside temperature of said parison.
- 10. An apparatus according to claim 9 wherein said first core and first mold are temperature controlled and wherein said second core and second mold are temperature controlled, with the second core and second mold maintained at a temperature substantially below that required for orientation of said plastic.
- 11. An apparatus according to claim 10 wherein said second core has an external configuration corresponding to the internal configuration of said parison in said second mold.
- 12. An apparatus according to claim 9 wherein said means for transferring said parison from said first mold to said second mold includes said first core, and wherein said apparatus includes means for pre-forming said parison within said second mold to separate said parison from said first core and conform said parison to the shape of said second mold, and includes means for separating said pre-formed parison from said first core while retaining said pre-formed parison in said second mold.
- 13. An apparatus according to claim 12 wherein said second core is a blow core which fully expands the pre-formed parison in said blow mold.
- 14. An apparatus according to claim 12 including means for axially extending said pre-formed parison to provide a final hollow article which is multi-axially oriented.
- 15. An apparatus according to claim 12 including means for maintaining said second mold and said blow mold in integral spaced relationship and means for providing common reciprocation thereof.
- 16. An apparatus according to claim 13 including a carrier assembly for removing said fully expanded article from said blow mold.
- 17. An apparatus according to claim 8 wherein said means for providing a parison on said first core is a means for providing a pre-formed parison on said first core and wherein said first core and first mold are heated.
- 18. An apparatus according to claim 8 including means for injection molding said parison on said first core in said first mold, wherein said first core and first mold are cooled.
- 19. An apparatus according to claim 8 wherein said means to substantially equalize the temperature distribution of said parison is cooling means.
