Claims
- 1. An apparatus for removing the brown color from a paper mill wastewater stream, said apparatus comprising a UV reactor including a flow channel therethrough, said flow channel having a UV irradiation zone, said reactor including UV irradiation means for directing UV irradiation at the wastewater stream as it passes through the UV irradiation zone of the reactor, said apparatus further having injection means extending into the UV irradiation zone for injecting hydrogen peroxide into the wastewater stream exactly at the point where the wastewater stream enters the UV irradiation zone of the reactor so as to simultaneously expose the wastewater stream to the UV irradiation and the hydrogen peroxide.
- 2. An apparatus as in claim 1 further comprising a holding tank in communication with the reactor for receiving the flow of wastewater and hydrogen peroxide from the reactor.
- 3. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein the means for injecting the hydrogen peroxide is adapted to prevent exposure of the hydrogen peroxide to UV light prior to injection of the hydrogen peroxide into the wastewater.
