Claims
- 1. An apparatus for treating water or wastewater comprising:
(a) a tank having an inlet, a clarified water outlet, a floating sludge outlet, and a settled sludge outlet; (b) a gravity settling chamber in the lower portion of said tank for removing insoluble materials through gravity settling; (c) a dissolved-air floatation chamber in the upper portion of said tank for removing insoluble materials through floatation; (d) a chamber connection channel connected between said gravity settling chamber and said dissolved-air floatation chamber; (e) a means for collecting treated water or wastewater from the lower portion of said dissolved-air floatation chamber; (f) an air-dissolving device with its inlet connected to a water source, and with its outlet operably connected to said chamber connection channel for providing high air content water; (g) a device for controlling the water level in the dissolved-air floatation chamber.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said gravity settling chamber further comprises a baffle assembly at the exit of the inlet pipe for reducing inflow turbulence.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said gravity settling chamber further comprises plate or tube settlers.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a skimming device for removing the floating sludge from said dissolved-air floatation chamber.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said chamber connection channel comprises a mixing device for mixing high air content water with the water or wastewater to be treated.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said device for controlling the water level is an effluent box that comprises an adjustable weir.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said water source connecting the inlet of said air-dissolving device is the effluent collection device.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a mixing device connected to said inlet.
- 9. A method for treating water or wastewater comprising:
- 10. The method of claim 9, wherein said gravity settling chamber further comprises a baffle assembly at the exit of the inlet pipe for reducing inflow turbulence.
- 11. The method of claim 9, wherein said gravity settling chamber further comprises plate or tube settlers.
- 12. The method of claim 9, further comprising a skimming device for removing the floating sludge from said dissolved-air floatation chamber.
- 13. The method of claim 9, wherein said chamber connection channel comprises a mixing device for mixing high air content water with the water or wastewater to be treated.
- 14. The method of claim 9, wherein said device for controlling the water level is an effluent box that comprises an adjustable weir.
- 15. The method of claim 9, wherein said water source connecting the inlet of said air-dissolving device is the effluent collection device.
- 16. The method of claim 9, further comprising a mixing device connected to said inlet.
