Claims
- 1. Apparatus for sensing the pressure of a liquid comprising
- means defining a first chamber having an inlet and an outlet for liquid flowing through said first chamber, said means defining a first chamber including a rigid wall having a first opening therethrough,
- an impermeable flexible diaphragm sealably covering said opening, said diaphragm including a corrugated portion formed symmetrically about a center portion of said diaphragm, said diaphragm forming means for moving in either direction without stretch or friction so that equal pressures result on opposite sides thereof,
- means defining a second chamber sealed around said diaphragm on the other side of said diaphragm from said first chamber, and
- a pressure transducer communicating with said second chamber to sense pressure in it,
- said first chamber being provided by a cassette that is removably mounted on a machine,
- said pressure transducer being mounted on said machine, and
- said means defining a second chamber comprising a portion surrounding said transducer mounted on said machine, and a rigid retainer covering said diaphragm, carried by said cassette and having a second opening adapted to sealably engage said portion surrounding said transducer,
- said retainer having an inner surface having the same shape as said corrugated portion, whereby said shape allows the region between said inner surface of said retainer and said diaphragam to have a small volume.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said diaphragm is circular and is sufficiently elastomeric to return to its original shape when not restrained from movement by fluid conditions in said chambers.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein said corrugated portion is semicircular in cross-section.
- 4. Apparatus for sensing the pressure of a liquid comprising
- means defining a first chamber having an inlet and an outlet for liquid flowing through said first chamber, said means defining a first chamber including a rigid wall having a first opening therethrough,
- an impermeable flexible diaphragm sealably covering said opening, said diaphragm including a corrugated portion formed symmetrically about a center portion of said diaphragm, said diaphragm forming means for moving in either direction without stretch or friction so that equal pressures result on opposite sides thereof,
- means defining a second chamber sealed around said diaphragm on the other side of said diaphragm from said first chamber, and
- a pressure transducer communicating with said second chamber to sense pressure in it,
- said first chamber being provided by a cassette that is removably mounted on a machine,
- said pressure transducer being mounted on said machine, and
- said means defining a second chamber comprising a portion surrounding said transducer mounted on said machine, and a rigid retainer covering said diaphragm, carried by said cassette and having a second opening adapted to sealably engage said portion surrounding said transducer
- said diaphragm having projections facing said second opening to prevent blocking of said second opening.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein said projections are radial projections.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein said diaphragm is circular and is sufficiently elastomeric to return to its original shape when not restrained from movement by fluid conditions in said chambers.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 6 wherein said corrugated portion is semicircular in cross-section.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein said second opening is defined by a cylindrical passage that fits over a cylindrical projection on said machine.
