Claims
- 1. An apparatus for winding optical fiber coils comprising:
- a winding spool on which the optical fiber coils are to be formed;
- wherein the winding spool is further comprised of a first part and a second part, said first part is a cylinder having one side polished with a right-handed hole bored through the cylinder along its axis, and said second part having a polished raised center portion such that when the two parts are mated together the raised center portion forms a hub around which the optical fiber is wound to form the optical fiber coil and a left-handed hole bored tangentially with respect to the raised center so that the optical fiber can make a smooth transition from the hole to the raised center section;
- means for winding the optical fiber onto the winding spool; and
- means for bonding the windings of the optical fiber together to form the optical fiber coil.
