Claims
- 1. A heat pump for the transfer of heat or refrigerant between two separate flows of fluid, comprising
- (a) a refrigeration cycle including an evaporator, a compressor, a condensor and a regulating valve;
- (b) the evaporator and condenser being adapted for heat exchange with either one of the respective separate flows of fluid for the transfer of heat and refrigerant from one fluid flow to the other;
- (c) a counterflow cooler arranged in a conduit of the refrigeration cycle between the condenser and the regulating valve;
- (d) one of said fluid flows passing through said counterflow cooler before entering the evaporator-heat exchanger during heating operation.
- 2. A heat pump according to claim 1, wherein the fluid flow leaving the evaporator-heat exchanger in the presence of heat passes through the counterflow cooler arranged in a refrigeration cycle conduit between the condenser and the regulating valve.
- 3. A heat pump according to claim 2, wherein said counterflow cooler is arranged between the heat exchanger and the regulating valve.
- 4. A heat pump according to claim 1, specifically for air-to-air operation, wherein the refrigeration cycle operates steadily and in one direction, and the separate fluid flows are alternately brough into heat exchange with the evaporator and the condenser in order to produce heating and cooling, respectively, comprising
- (a) a housing for the refrigeration cycle;
- (b) four adjacent slots in said housing forming pairs of inlets and outlets, respectively for the heat exchangers encompassing the condenser and evaporator of the refrigeration cycle;
- (c) two tubular conduits for drawing in and expelling outside air into and out of the housing;
- (d) a distribution box movable over said slots and having two separate chambers open to said slots, each chamber being connected to one of said tubular conduits;
- (e) said chambers being adapted for movement into registry with one of said pair of slots of a heat exchanger while opening the inlet and outlet of the other heat exchanger for circulation of interior air.
- 5. Heat pump according to claim 1, specifically for air-to-air operation, wherein the refrigeration cycle operates steadily and in one direction, and the separate fluid flows are alternately brought into heat exchange with the evaporator and the condenser in order to produce heating and cooling, respectively, comprising
- (a) a housing for the refrigeration cycle;
- (b) four slots in said housing forming pairs of inlets and outlets, respectively, for the heat exchangers;
- (c) the slots of the heat exchanger encompassing the evaporator and the outlet slots of the heat exchanger encompassing the condenser being adjacent and parallel to one another;
- (d) two tubular conduits for drawing in and expelling exterior air into and out of said housing.
- (e) a distribution box movable over said slots and having two separate chambers open to said parallel slots, each chamber being connected to the inner end of one of said tubular conduits;
- (f) said chambers being adapted for selective movement into registry with the inlet and outlet of the heat exchanger encompassing the evaporator, on the one hand, and with the inlet of the heat exchanger encompassing the evaporator and the outlet of the heat exchanger encompassing the condenser, on the other hand.
- 6. A heat pump assembly according to claim 4, wherein an outer heat exchanger assembly is positionable outside a building including said heat pump assembly and at least one inner heat exchanger assembly is positionable within said building;
- conduit means extending between each of said inner and outer heat exchanger assemblies and each of said condensor and said evaporator assemblies, respectively;
- change-over valve means having a selective first position for joining said outer heat exchanger and said evaporator in heat exchange relationship and further joining said condensor and said inner heat exchanger in heat exchange relationship; and
- said change-over valve means having a further selective position for joining said inner heat exchanger and said evaporator in heat exchange relationship and also joining said outer heat exchanger and said condensor in heat exchange relationship.
