Claims
- 1. An appliance comprising:
- a. a first wall surface;
- b. a second wall surface spaced from the first wall surface defining a space therebetween; and,
- c. an insulation and sealing device located in the space, and in sealing contact with both the first wall surface and second wall surface, the sealing device comprising:
- means defining an open topped trough fabricated of a flexible material, the width of the trough across the open top being at least approximately equal to the width of the space between the first and second surfaces; and,
- a resilient insulation material in the open topped trough and exposed at the open top of the trough.
- 2. The appliance of claim 1, wherein the material of the trough is impermeable.
- 3. The appliance of claim 1, wherein the material of the trough is a plastic.
- 4. The appliance of claim 1, wherein the material of the trough is heat resistant.
- 5. The appliance of claim 4, wherein the material of the trough comprises a metallic foil.
- 6. The appliance of claim 1, wherein the trough defining means comprises spaced apart side walls generally converging in a downward direction from the open top.
- 7. The appliance of claim 6, wherein the trough defining means is generally wedge shaped in transverse cross-section with the open top at the divergent side of the wedge shape.
- 8. The appliance of claim 1, wherein the insulation material in the trough is an expanded foam.
- 9. The appliance of claim 1, wherein the resilient insulation material in the trough is a closed-cell foam material.
- 10. The appliance of claim 1, wherein the resilient insulation material in the trough is a open-cell foam material.
- 11. The appliance of claim 1, wherein the insulation material in the trough is a fibrous material.
- 12. The appliance of claim 1, wherein the trough defining means is attached to one of the first wall surface and the second wall surface.
- 13. The appliance of claim 1, wherein the space between the first and second wall surfaces above the insulation and sealing device is filled with a foamed insulation material.
- 14. The appliance of claim 1, wherein:
- the first wall surface is defined by a water heater tank,
- the second wall surface is defined by an outer shell concentrically located over the water tank defining an annular space therebetween; and,
- the sealing and insulation device is annular in shape fitting around the annular space between the water tank and outer shell and is in sealing contact with both the exterior wall surface of the water tank and interior wall surface of the outer shell across the annular space therebetween.
