Claims
- 1. An application package magnetostrictive probe, comprising:
a magnetostrictive sensor element; a sensor cartridge housing having an exterior and interior and interior surface; first means for mounting said sensor element wholly in said interior of said housing.
- 2. The application package of claim 1, wherein said sensor element is preassembled.
- 3. The probe of claim 2, wherein said housing is explosion proof and there is further included potting material, said potting material located in said interior of said housing, substantially filling said housing about said sensor element.
- 4. The probe of claim 3, wherein there is further included second means for anchoring said potting material in said housing.
- 5. The probe of claim 4, wherein said housing includes a second end, said housing and said second end, terminating at a cut back, said cut back forming a portion of said second means.
- 6. The probe of claim 5, wherein there is further included threads on said interior surface, said threads being interior to said cut back, said threads forming a portion of said second means.
- 7. The probe of claim 6, wherein said second end has an end surface facing opposite to said thick front end portion and there is further included waterproof material in said second end and abutting said potting material, said waterproof material being located between said cut back and said surface of said second end.
- 8. The probe of claim 1, wherein there is further included a conduit, said conduit mounted in said interior of said housing opposite said sensor element, said conduit extending from said interior of said housing to said exterior of said housing.
- 9. The probe of claim 8, wherein said sensor element includes wires located in said interior of said housing, said wires extending interiorly from said sensor element through said conduit.
- 10. The probe of claim 9, wherein said first means includes an isolator plug mounted between said sensor element and said housing.
- 11. The probe of claim 10, wherein said sensor element includes awaveguide, said isolator potting plug includes a cylindrical central opening, and said housing includes a thick front end portion having an opening therethrough coaxial with said cylindrical central opening, said waveguide extending through said cylindrical central opening and said thick front end portion opening.
- 12. The probe of claim 11, wherein there is further included an external sheath, said waveguide extending into said sheath and said sheath being mounted in a portion of said thick front end portion opening and extending exteriorly therefrom.
- 13. The probe of claim 12, wherein said sheath includes an end remote from said housing, said end having an end plug.
- 14. The probe of claim 8, wherein said conduit includes strain relief.
- 15. The probe of claim 1, wherein said housing is made of weldable metal.
- 16. The probe of claim 1, wherein said sensor element includes a transducer having modular portions.
- 17. The probe of claim 1, wherein said housing has exterior, spaced apart, longitudinally extending flat portions.
- 18. An explosion proof magnetostrictive probe, comprising:
a preassembled magnetostrictive sensor element; an explosion proof housing having an exterior and interior and interior surface; first means for mounting said sensor element in said interior of said housing; potting material, said potting material located in said interior of said housing, substantially filling said housing about said sensor element; and second means for anchoring said potting material in said housing.
- 19. The probe of claim 18, wherein there is further included a conduit, said conduit mounted in said interior of said housing opposite said sensor element, said conduit extending from said interior of said housing to said exterior of said housing.
- 20. The probe of claim 19, wherein said sensor element is located in said interior of said housing, and there is further included a conduit mounted in said housing, said wires extending interiorly from said sensor element through said conduit.
- 21. The probe of claim 18, wherein said first means includes an isolator potting plug mounted between said sensor element and said housing.
- 22. The probe of claim 18, wherein there is further included an isolator plug mounted between said sensor element and said housing, and wherein said sensor element includes a waveguide, said isolator potting plug includes a cylindrical central opening, and said housing includes a thick front end portion having an opening therethrough coaxial with said cylindrical central opening, said waveguide extending through said cylindrical central opening and said thick front end portion opening.
- 23. The probe of claim 22, wherein there is further included an external sheath, said waveguide extending into said sheath and said sheath being mounted in a portion of said thick front end portion opening and extending exteriorly therefrom.
- 24. The probe of claim 23, wherein said sheath includes an end remote from said housing, said end having an end plug.
- 25. The probe of claim 18, wherein said housing includes a second end, said housing and said second end terminating at a cut back, said cut back forming a portion of said second means.
- 26. The probe of claim 25, wherein there is further included threads on said interior surface, said threads being interior to said cut back, said threads forming a portion of said second means.
- 27. The probe of claim 18, wherein said housing includes a thick front end portion and a second end and there is further included waterproof material in said second end and abutting said potting material, said waterproof material being located between said potting material and said surface of said second end.
- 28. The probe of clam 18, wherein said housing includes a conduit, said conduit includes strain relief.
- 29. The probe of claim 18, wherein said housing is made of weldable metal.
- 30. The probe of claim 18, wherein said sensor element includes a transducer having modular portions.
- 31. The probe of claim 18, wherein said housing has exterior, spaced apart, longitudinally extending flat portions.
