Claims
- 1. A power head for insertion in an aquarium tank, the power head comprising:
- a pump for pumping water of the aquarium tank;
- a water conduit; and
- a housing enclosing said pump and said water conduit, said housing having an inlet port for receiving water and an outlet port for discharging water, said pump being provided at said inlet port for pumping water into said housing, said pump and said conduit being serially connected between said inlet port and said outlet port;
- said housing having substantially the shape of a circular cylinder to avoid trapping fish between the housing and a wall of the aquarium tank.
- 2. A power head according to claim 1, wherein said outlet port extends transversely to an axis of said circular cylinder.
- 3. A power head for insertion in an aquarium tank, the power head comprising:
- a pump for pumping water of the aquarium tank;
- a water conduit;
- a housing enclosing said pump and said water conduit, said housing having an inlet port for receiving water and an outlet port for discharging water, said pump being provided at said inlet for pumping water into said housing, said pump and said conduit being serially connected between said inlet port and said outlet port; and
- a flow diverter adjustably connected to said outlet port so as to direct a flow of water exiting the power head in a desired direction.
- 4. A power head according to claim 3, wherein said flow diverter is rotatably supported on said outlet port to be pivoted to any desired position within the range of 360.degree..
- 5. A power head according to claim 3, wherein said outlet port extends transversely to said housing and includes a circular collar supporting said flow diverter on said housing.
- 6. A power head according to claim 5, wherein said flow diverter has an elongated casing forming a mixing chamber inside thereof for mixing air and water before a mixture of air and water enters the aquarium tank.
- 7. A power head according to claim 6, wherein said casing has an inlet portion having a knurled surface engaging said circular collar and an outlet portion bent at right angles to said mixing chamber in a direction away from said housing of the power head.
- 8. A power head according to claim 7, wherein said outlet portion is fan-shaped to reduce water turbulence and disturbance to the fish in the aquarium tank.
- 9. A power head according to claim 7, wherein said outlet portion terminates in an outlet opening of substantially oval cross-section.
- 10. A power head according to claim 9, wherein a cross-sectional area of said outlet opening substantially corresponds to a cross-sectional area of said outlet port to reduce pressure in air exiting the flow diverter.
- 11. A power head for insertion in an aquarium tank, the power head comprising:
- a pump for pumping water of the aquarium tank;
- a water conduit;
- a housing enclosing said pump and said water conduit, said housing having an inlet port for receiving water and an outlet port for discharging water, said pump being provided at said inlet for pumping water into said housing, said pump and said conduit being serially connected between said inlet port and said outlet port; and
- a flow diverter pivotally connected to said housing at said outlet port and in communication with said outlet port,
- said flow diverter being pivotally adjustable relative to said housing so as to direct a flow of water exiting the power head in a desired direction in the tank.
- 12. A power head for insertion in an aquarium tank, the power head comprising:
- a pump for pumping water of the aquarium tank;
- a water conduit;
- a housing enclosing said pump and said water conduit, said housing having an inlet port for receiving water and an outlet port for discharging water, said pump being provided at said inlet for pumping water into said housing, said pump and said conduit being serially connected between said inlet port and said outlet port; and
- a flow diverter pivotally supported on said outlet portion of said housing and having a mixing chamber for mixing water and air, and an exit portion, said flow diverter being connected to said outlet portion of said housing so that by pivoting said flow diverter relative to said housing said exit portion may direct a flow of water exiting the power head in a desired direction in the aquarium tank.
