Claims
- 1. An aqueous solution of alkylammonium borate containing about 7% to 13% boron, comprising about 40% to about 85% of the reaction product of boric acid and alkylamine, said alkyl group having 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, in a mole ratio of from 1.5:1 to about 3:1, about 2% to about 15% of an alcohol selected from the lower alkanols and lower alkylene glycols, and the balance water, said lower alkanols and alkylene glycols containing 1 to about 6 carbon atoms.
- 2. An aqueous solution according to claim 1 in which said alkylamine is a monoalkylamine.
- 3. An aqueous solution according to claim 1 in which said alcohol is an alkylene glycol.
- 4. An aqueous solution according to claim 1 in which said alkylamine is methylamine.
- 5. An aqueous solution according to claim 1 comprising about 60 to about 70% of said reaction product of boric acid and alkylamine, about 4 to 12% of said alcohol and about 17 to 26% water.
- 6. An aqueous solution according to claim 5 in which said alkylamine is methylamine and said alcohol is ethylene glycol.
- 7. An aqueous solution according to claim 1 in which said alcohol is ethylene glycol.
- 8. An aqueous solution according to claim 1 in which said alkylamine is ethylamine and said alcohol is ethanol.
- 9. An aqueous solution according to claim 1 comprising about 12 percent methyl amine, 6 percent ethylene glycol, 58 percent boric acid and the balance water, said percentages by weight.
- 10. An aqueous solution according to claim 1 comprising about 13 percent methyl amine, 8 percent ethylene glycol, 58 percent boric acid and the balance water, said percentages by weight.
- 11. An aqueous solution according to claim 1 in which said alkylamine is n-hexylamine and said alcohol is propylene glycol.
- 12. An aqueous solution according to claim 1 in combination with a pesticide.
- 13. An aqueous solution comprising the composition of claim 1 in combination with another plant nutrient.
- 14. The method of fertilizing plants which comprises the application of an aqueous solution comprising the composition of claim 1.
- 15. The method according to claim 14 in which said aqueous solution is applied to the foliage of said plants.
- 16. The method according to claim 15 in which said aqueous solution is applied at a rate sufficient to provide about 0.5 to 4 pounds of boron per acre.
- 17. The method according to claim 14 in which said aqueous solution is applied to soil.
- 18. The method according to claim 14 in which said aqueous solution contains about 1-1.5 pound of boron per gallon.
- 19. An aqueous solution of alkylammonium borate containing about 7% to 13% boron, comprising about 40% to about 85% of the reaction product of boric acid and lower alkylamine, said alkylamine containing 1-5 carbon atoms, in a mole ratio of from 1.5:1 to about 3:1, about 2% to about 15% of an alcohol selected from the lower alkanols and lower alkylene glycols, said alkanols and alkylene glycols containing 1-4 carbon atoms, and the balance water.
- 20. The method of fertilizing plants which comprises the application of an aqueous solution according to claim 19.
