- 2. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said suspension of dispersed substance comprises food solids selected from the group consisting of poultry, beef, pork and potato.
- 3. A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein said aqueous dispersion is further comprised of an inorganic salt.
- 4. A method as claimed in claim 3 wherein said inorganic salt is selected from the group consisting of chlorides, sulfates, phosphates, hydrogenphosphates and mixtures thereof.
- 5. A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein said R2, R3, and R4 in said first recurring unit together contain a total of at least 5 carbon atoms.
- 6. A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein said first polymer is further comprised of a recurring anionic unit.
- 7. A method as claimed in claim 6 wherein said recurring anionic unit is selected from the group consisting of acrylic acid, 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid, styrenesulfonic acid, and salts thereof.
- 8. A method recurring as claimed in claim 1 wherein said first polymer is further comprised of a hydrophobic recurring unit.
- 9. A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein said first polymer is devoid of hydrophobic recurring units.
- 10. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first polymer is further comprised of recurring (alk)acrylamide units.
- 11. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said polyamine is formed from an amine and epihalohydrin or dihaloalkane.
- 12. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first polymer is water-soluble and branched.
- 13. A method for dewatering or clarifying a biotechnological process stream comprising (a) intermixing an aqueous dispersion of polymers, or an aqueous admixture prepared by intermixing said aqueous dispersion with water, in an amount effective for dewatering or clarifying, with a suspension of dispersed biotechnological solids, and (b) dewatering or clarifying said suspension of dispersed biotechnological solids, said aqueous dispersion being comprised of (i) a discontinuous phase containing polymer that is comprised of a first cationic water-soluble or water-swellable polymer having at least one first recurring unit of the formula (I), wherein R1 is H or CH3, A is O or NH, B is an alkylene or branched alkylene or oxyalkylene group having from 1 to 5 carbons, R2 is a methyl, ethyl, or propyl group, R3 is a methyl, ethyl, or propyl group, R4 is a methyl, ethyl or propyl group, and X is a counterion; and (ii) a polyamine.
- 14. A method as claimed in claim 13, wherein said suspension of dispersed biotechnological solids is comprised of a fermentation broth.
- 15. A method as claimed in claim 13, wherein said polyamine is formed from an amine and epihalohydrin or dihaloalkane.
- 16. A method as claimed in claim 13, wherein said aqueous dispersion is further comprised of ammonium sulfate.
- 17. A method as claimed in claim 13 wherein said first polymer is further comprised of a recurring anionic unit.
- 18. A method as claimed in claim 17 wherein said recurring anionic unit is selected from the group consisting of acrylic acid, 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid, styrenesulfonic acid, and salts thereof.
- 19. A method as claimed in claim 2, wherein said polyamine is formed from an amine and epihalohydrin or dihaloalkane.
- 20. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said suspension of dispersed substance comprises oily waste.
- 21. A method as claimed in claim 20, wherein said polyamine is formed from an amine and epihalohydrin or dihaloalkane.
- 22. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein, if said first polymer is further comprised of a second recurring unit of formula (I) wherein R1 is H or CH3, A is O or NH, B is an alkylene or branched alkylene or oxyalkylene group having from 1 to 5 carbons, X is a counterion, and R2, R3 or R4 is selected from the group consisting of C4-C10 alkyl, benzyl, and C2H4C6H5, then the amount of said first recurring unit is greater than the amount of said second recurring unit on a molar basis.
