Claims
- 1. An arching mechanism comprising:at least one archable pressure element having a vertical axis; a plurality of transverse members fixed to said at least one archable pressure element; at least one tensioning element, said tensioning element being engaged with at least one of said transverse members, said tensioning element applying force transverse to the vertical axis of said at least one archable pressure element, such that said force arches said pressure element; and a tension lock coupled to said tensioning element.
- 2. An arching mechanism comprising:at least one archable pressure element having a vertical axis; a plurality of transverse members fixed to said at least one archable pressure element; at least one tensioning element, said at least one tensioning element including at least one Bowden cable, said Bowden cable having a cable end engaged with one of said transverse members, said Bowden cable applying force transverse to the vertical axis of said at least one archable pressure element, such that said force arches said pressure element; and a tension lock coupled to said tensioning element.
- 3. An arching mechanism comprising:at least one archable pressure element having a vertical axis; a plurality of transverse members fixed to said at least one archable pressure element; at least one tensioning element, said at least one tensioning element including at least one Bowden cable, said Bowden cable having a cable end engaged with one of said transverse members and said Bowden cable having a cable sleeve end engaged with another one of said transverse members, said Bowden cable applying force transverse to the vertical axis of said at least one archable pressure element, such that said force arches said pressure element; and a tension lock coupled to said tensioning element.
- 4. An arching mechanism comprising:at least one archable pressure element having a vertical axis; a plurality of transverse members fixed to said at least one archable pressure element; at least one tensioning element, said at least one tensioning element including at least one Bowden cable, said Bowden cable having a cable end engaged with one of said transverse members and said Bowden cable having a cable sleeve end engaged with the same one of said transverse members, said Bowden cable applying force transverse to the vertical axis of said at least one archable pressure element, such that said force arches said pressure element; and a tension lock coupled to said tensioning element.
- 5. An arching mechanism comprising:at least one archable pressure element having a vertical axis; a plurality of transverse members fixed to said at least one archable pressure element; at least one tensioning element, said at least one tensioning element including at least two Bowden cables, each of said Bowden cables having a cable end engaged with one of said transverse members, at least one of said Bowden cables applying force transverse to the vertical axis of said at least one archable pressure element, such that said force arches said pressure element; and a tension lock coupled to said tensioning element.
- 6. An arching mechanism comprising:at least one archable pressure element having a vertical axis; a plurality of transverse members fixed to said at least one archable pressure element; at least one tensioning element, said at least one tensioning element including at least two Bowden cables, at least one of said Bowden cables having a cable end engaged with one of said transverse members and at least one of said Bowden cables having a cable sleeve end engaged with another one of said transverse members, said at least one Bowden cable applying force transverse to the vertical axis at least one archable pressure element, such that said force arches said pressure element; and a tension lock coupled to said tensioning element.
- 7. An arching mechanism comprising:at least one archable pressure element having a vertical axis; a plurality of transverse members fixed to said at least one archable pressure element; at least one tensioning element, said at least one tensioning element including at least two Bowden cables, at least one of said Bowden cables having a cable end engaged with one of said transverse members and at least one of said Bowden cables having a cable sleeve end engaged with the same one of said transverse members, at least one of said Bowden cables applying force transverse to the vertical axis of said at least one archable pressure element, such that said force arches said pressure element; and a tension lock coupled to said tensioning element.
- 8. An arching mechanism comprising:at least one archable pressure element having a vertical axis; a plurality of transverse members fixed to said at least one archable pressure element; at least one tensioning element, said at least one tensioning element including at least two Bowden cables, each of said Bowden cables having a cable end engaged with one of said transverse members and each of said Bowden cables having a cable sleeve end engaged with the same one of said transverse members; and a tension lock coupled to said tensioning element.
- 9. An arching mechanism in accordance with claim 8, further comprising at least one of said Bowden cables applying force transverse to the vertical axis of said at least one archable pressure element, such that said force arches said pressure element.
- 10. An arching mechanism comprising:a frame; at least one archable pressure element having a vertical axis; a plurality of transverse members fixed to said at least one archable pressure element; at least one tensioning element, said at least one tensioning element including at least two Bowden cables, each of said Bowden cables having a cable end engaged with one of said transverse members and each of said Bowden cables having a cable sleeve end engaged with said frame, at least one of said Bowden cables applying force transverse to the vertical axis of said at least one archable pressure element, such that said force arches said pressure element; and a tension lock coupled to said tensioning element.
- 11. An arching mechanism comprising:a frame; at least one archable pressure element having a vertical axis; a plurality of transverse members fixed to said at least one archable pressure element; at least one tensioning element, said at least one tensioning element including at least two Bowden cables, each of said Bowden cables having a cable end engaged with said frame and each of said Bowden cables having a cable sleeve end engaged with one of said transverse members, at least one of said Bowden cables applying force transverse to the vertical axis of said at least one archable pressure element, such that said force arches said pressure element; and a tension lock coupled to said tensioning element.
- 12. An arching mechanism comprising:a frame; at least one archable pressure element having a vertical axis; a plurality of transverse members fixed to said at least one archable pressure element, at least two of said transverse members being engaged with said frame, and at least one of said transverse members having at least one Bowden cable end mount and at least one Bowden sleeve end mount; at least one tensioning element, said at least one tensioning element including at least one Bowden cable, said Bowden cable having a cable end engaged with said transverse member Bowden cable end mount and said Bowden cable having a sleeve end engaged with said transverse member Bowden sleeve mount, said at least one Bowden cable applying force transverse to the vertical axis of said at least one archable pressure element, such that said force arches said pressure element; and a tension lock coupled to said tensioning element.
- 13. An arching mechanism comprising:a frame; at least one archable pressure element having a vertical axis; a plurality of transverse members fixed to said at least one archable pressure element; at least two of said transverse members being engaged with said frame, and at least one of said transverse members having at least one substantially medial Bowden cable mount and at least two substantially lateral Bowden cable mounts; at least one tensioning element, said at least one tensioning element including at least two Bowden cables, each of said Bowden cables having a cable end engaged with said at least one transverse member medial Bowden cable mount and each of said Bowden cables having a cable sleeve end engaged with said transverse member lateral Bowden cable mounts, at least one of said Bowden cables applying force transverse to the vertical axis of said at least one archable pressure element, such that said force arches said pressure element; and a tension lock coupled to said tensioning element.
- 14. An arching mechanism comprising:a frame; at least one archable pressure element having a vertical axis; a plurality of transverse members fixed to said at least one archable pressure element; at least two of said transverse members being engaged with said frame, and at least one of said transverse members having at least one substantially medial Bowden cable mount and at least two substantially lateral Bowden cable mounts; at least one tensioning element, said at least one tensioning element including at least two Bowden cables, each of said Bowden cables having a cable end engaged with said at least two transverse member lateral Bowden cable mounts and each of said Bowden cables having a cable sleeve end engaged with said transverse member medial Bowden cable mount; and a tension lock coupled to said tensioning element.
- 15. An arching mechanism in accordance with claim 14, further comprising at least one of said Bowden cables applying force transverse to the vertical axis of said at least one archable pressure element, such that said force arches said pressure element.
