Claims
- 1. Apparatus for use in retreading tire carcasses utilizing a pair of annular discs for sealing an envelope to the tire carcass, comprising:
- an arcuate shaped rigid plate positionable in an opening of the tire carcass defined by the space between opposing beads of the tire, said plate having an arcuate length of less than one half the circumferential length of one said tire bead;
- a pair of parallel ribs mounted on an outer curved surface of said plate and extending substantially from one end of said plate to an opposing end thereof and spaced apart a distance generally the same as the space between the beads of the tire carcass to be retread, said ribs being engageable with interior surfaces of the tire beads when said plate is placed generally within said tire opening between the tire beads; and
- releasable latching means for use in retreading said tire, said latching means being mounted on an inner surface of said plate.
- 2. The tire retreading apparatus of claim 1 wherein said rigid plate is constructed in two parts, and further including a hinge connection for hinging said parts with respect to each other.
- 3. The tire retreading apparatus of claim 1 wherein said releasable latching means comprises a quick-release toggle clamp having over-center action for locking said clamp in a latched position.
- 4. The tire retreading apparatus of claim 3 wherein said toggle clamp includes a hooked end.
- 5. The tire retreading apparatus of claim 3 wherein said toggle clamp includes a looped end.
- 6. The tire retreading apparatus of claim 1 wherein said ribs are spaced apart a distance somewhat greater than the space between said ribs when said tire carcass is in a relaxed state.
- 7. The tire retreading apparatus of claim 1 wherein said latching means comprises a pair of toggle clamps fixed to said arcuate plate, each said clamp being independently operable and engageable with a different said disc for applying a compressive force to the discs to seal the envelope to the tire carcass sidewalls.
- 8. The tire retreading apparatus of claim 7 wherein each said toggle clamp is adjustable independently of each other for independently adjusting the compressive pressure applied to each sidewall of the tire carcass.
- 9. Apparatus for use in retreading tire carcasses, comprising:
- an arcuate shaped rigid plate positionable in an opening of the tire carcass defined by the space between opposing beads of the tire, said plate having an arcuate length greater than ninety degrees;
- a pair of parallel ribs mounted on an outer curved surface of said plate and spaced apart a distance greater than the space between the beads of the tire carcass to be retread, said ribs being of a length so as to be engageable with a substantial portion of interior surfaces of the tire beads when said plate is placed generally within the tire opening; and
- toggle clamp releasable latching means mounted on an inner surface of said plate, said toggle clamp means including means operable for independently applying a compressive force to opposing sidewalls of the tire carcass.
- 10. The tire retreading apparatus of claim 9 wherein said rigid plate is constructed having a width spanning said opening and extending from one said bead to the other.
- 11. The tire retreading apparatus of claim 9 wherein said plate has an arcuate length less than one hundred eighty degrees.
- 12. The tire retreading apparatus of claim 9 further including in combination a pair of annular discs positionable adjacent sidewalls of the tire and means for clamping said clamping means thereto for compressing said discs against the sidewalls of the tire carcass.
