Claims
- 1. A fiber- or film-forming aromatic copolyamide which comprises at least one recurring unit (A) of the formula (I), at least one recurring unit (B) of the formula (II) and at least one recurring unit (C) of the formula (III): ##STR105## in which formulae (I), (II) and (III), Y.sub.1 represents a divalent radical selected from the group consisting of ##STR106## Ar.sub.1 represents a member selected from the group consisting of phenylene, naphthylene and biphenylene radicals, each having two valence bonds oriented meta; Ar.sub.2 represents a member selected from the group consisting of phenylene, naphthylene and biphenylene radicals, each having two valence bonds oriented coaxially or in parallel to each other and radicals of the formula (IV): ##STR107## wherein Y.sub.2 represents a divalent radical selected from the same group as that set forth above for Y.sub.1 and is the same as or different from Y.sub.1 ; and X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 respectively represent a --NH-- moiety of X.sub.3, X.sub.4, X.sub.5 and X.sub.6 respectively represent a moiety --NH-- or --CO-- of an amide group --NHCO-- or --CONH-- and the molar proportions of said recurring units (A), (B) and (C) represented by a triangular composition diagram fall on or within the quadrilateral shown in FIG. 1 and defined by the co-ordinates:
- P (A 50, B 5, C 45)
- Q (A 5, B 5, C 90)
- R (A 5, B 40, C 55) and
- S (A 50, B 15, C 35)
- except for the side defined by the coordinates P, Q.
- 2. An aromatic copolyamide as claimed in claim 1, wherein the intrinsic viscosity of said copolyamide is in a range of from 1 to 7, determined in a solution of 0.5 g of said copolyamide dissolved in 100 ml of 98% concentrated sulfuric acid, at a temperature of 30.degree. C.
- 3. An aromatic copolyamide as claimed in claim 2, wherein said intrinsic viscosity is in a range of from 1.5 to 5.
- 4. An aromatic copolyamide as claimed in claim 1, wherein Y.sub.1 in the formula (I) represents a member selected from the group consisting of ##STR108## radicals.
- 5. An aromatic copolyamide as claimed in claim 1, wherein Y.sub.1 in the formula (I) represents --O-- radical.
- 6. An aromatic copolyamide as claimed in claim 1, wherein Ar.sub.1 in formula (II) represents a member selected from the group consisting of phenylene and naphthylene radicals, each having two valence bonds oriented meta.
- 7. An aromatic copolyamide as claimed in claim 1, wherein Ar.sub.2 in the formula (III) represents a member selected from the group consisting of phenylene, naphthylene and biphenylene radicals, each having two valence bonds oriented coaxially or in parallel to each other.
- 8. An aromatic copolyamide as claimed in claim 1, wherein Y.sub.1 in formula (I) represents an --O-- radical, Ar.sub.1 in formula (II) represents a m-phenylene radical and Ar.sub.2 in formula (III) represents a p-phenylene radical.
- 9. A fiber or filament comprising the aromatic copolyamide as claimed in claim 1.
- 10. A film comprising the aromatic copolyamide as claimed in claim 1.
