Claims
- 1. A process of preparing an aromatic diamine which comprises converting a substituted biphenyl having the formula: ##STR19## where X is halogen in the presence of sodium nitrite and an acid to the corresponding dihydroxy-substituted biphenyl having the formula: ##STR20## reacting the dihydroxy-substituted biphenyl with an aryl reactant having the formula: ##STR21## where X is halogen to obtain the corresponding substituted phenoxy biphenyl having the formula ##STR22## and subsequently converting the substituted-biphenyl in the presence of hydrogen to the corresponding aromatic diamine having the formula: ##STR23## wherein A is a radical selected from the Group consisting of --CF.sub.3, aryl, halogen, --OR where R is an alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl radical of 1 to 8 carbons, and --OCX.sub.3 where X is halogen and B is a radical selected from the Group consisting of hydrogen, an alkyl radical of 1 to 4 carbons, --CF.sub.3, aryl, halogen, --OR where R is an alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl radical of 1 to 8 carbons, and --OCX.sub.3 where X is a halogen.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein B is hydrogen and X is chlorine or fluorine.
- 3. The process of preparing the aromatic diamine of claim 1 wherein A is an --OR radical where R is an alkyl group and B is an --OR radical where R is an alkyl group.
- 4. The process of preparing the aromatic diamine of claim 3 where R is an aryl group.
