Claims
- 1. An article of manufacture comprising high modulus multifilaments of synthetic, aromatic polyamide fibers impregnated and coated with 5-95% by weight of a thermoplastic polyurethane resin comprising the reaction product of:
- a liquid polytetramethylene ether glycol;
- an aliphatic diisocyanate; and
- an aliphatic diamine coupling-curing agent.
- 2. An article in accordance with claim 1 in which the resin impregnation is from 15-40% by weight of a polyurethane reaction product of a polytetramethylene ether glycol having a molecular weight from 500 to 3,000 an aliphatic-cycloaliphatic diisocyanate and a cycloaliphatic diamine.
- 3. An article according to claim 2 in which the diisocyanate is isophorone diisocyanate and the diamine is isophorone diamine.
- 4. An article according to claim 2 in which a plurality of said impregnated multifilaments are joined together by fusion of said thermoplastic impregnated coatings.
- 5. An article according to claim 1 in which the diisocyanate is a compound of the formula: ##STR3## where R.sup.1 is alkylene of 1-10 carbon atoms and n is an integer from 4 to 10.
- 6. An article according to claim 5 in which the diisocyanate is a compound of the formula: ##STR4## where R.sup.3 is lower alkyl and R.sup.1 is alkylene of 1-10 carbon atoms.
- 7. An article according to claim 6 in which R.sup.3 is methyl and R.sup.1 is methylene.
- 8. An article according to claim 6 in which the diamine is a cycloaliphatic diamine.
- 9. An article according to claim 8 in which the diamine is isophorone diamine.
- 10. An article according to claim 9 in which the resin contains 1-5 phr of a drying agent and 1-10 phr of silicate fillers.
