Claims
- 1. A compound corresponding to Formula I:
- 2. The compound of claim 1 wherein the sum of p and q is 1.
- 3. The compound of claim 1 wherein the p is 0 and q is 1.
- 4. The compound of claim 1 wherein X50 is carbon.
- 5. The compound of claim 1 wherein X51 is oxygen.
- 6. The compound of claim 1 wherein X53 is heterocyclo, optionally substituted alkyl, or optionally substituted phenyl.
- 7. The compound of claim 1 wherein one of X11, X22, X33, X44 is alkyl, nitro, or halo, and X11, X22, X33, and X44 are hydrogen.
- 8. The compound of claim 1 wherein one of M11 and M22, M22 and M33, M33 and M44, or M44 and M55, and the atoms to which they are attached form a fused ring comprising —O—CH2—O—CH2— or —OCH2O—, M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 are hydrogen, halogen, or nitro.
- 9. The compound of claim 1 wherein any two of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 are alkoxy and the others of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 are hydrogen.
- 10. The compound of claim 1 wherein one of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 is alkoxy, one of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 is nitro, alkyl or substituted alkyl, and the remainder of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 are hydrogen.
- 11. The compound of claim 1 wherein one of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 is alkyl or substituted alkyl and the remainder of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 are hydrogen.
- 12. A compound corresponding to Formula II:
- 13. The compound of claim 12 wherein the X ring is a benzene ring.
- 14. The compound of claim 12 wherein M ring is a pyridine ring or a pyrimidine ring.
- 15. The compound of claim 12 wherein X50 is carbon.
- 16. The compound of claim 12 wherein X51 is oxygen.
- 17. The compound of claim 12 wherein X53 is heterocyclo, optionally substituted alkyl, or optionally substituted phenyl.
- 18. The compound of claim 12 wherein one of X11, X22, X33, X44 is alkyl, nitro, or halo and the others of X11, X22, X33, X44 are hydrogen.
- 19. The compound of claim 12 wherein one of M11 and M22, M22 and M33, M33 and M44, or M44 and M55, and the atoms of the M ring to which they are attached form a fused ring comprising —O—CH2—O—CH2— or —OCH2O—, and the others of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 are hydrogen, halogen, or nitro.
- 20. The compound of claim 12 wherein any two of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 are alkoxy and the others of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 are hydrogen.
- 21. The compound of claim 12 wherein one of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 is alkoxy, one of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 is nitro or optionally substituted alkyl, and the others of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 are hydrogen.
- 22. The compound of claim 12 wherein one of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 is optionally substituted alkyl and the others of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 are hydrogen.
- 23. A compound corresponding to Formula III:
- 24. The compound of claim 23 wherein X50 is carbon.
- 25. The compound of claim 23 wherein X51 is oxygen.
- 26. The compound of claim 23 wherein X53 is heterocyclo, optionally substituted linear, branched or cyclo-alkyl, or optionally substituted phenyl.
- 27. The compound of claim 23 wherein one of X11, X22, X33, X44 is alkyl, nitro, or halo and the others of X11, X22, X33, X44 are hydrogen.
- 28. The compound of claim 23 wherein M11 and M22, M22 and M33, M33 and M44, or M44 and M55, and the atoms to which they are attached form a fused ring comprising —O—CH2—O—CH2— or —OCH2O—, and the others of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 are hydrogen, halogen, or nitro.
- 29. The compound of claim 23 wherein any two of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 are alkoxy while the others of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 are hydrogen.
- 30. The compound of claim 23 wherein one of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 is alkoxy, one of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 is nitro or alkyl, and the others of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 are hydrogen.
- 31. The compound of claim 23 wherein one of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 is optionally substituted alkyl and the others of M11, M22, M33, M44 and M55 are hydrogen.

- 91. A process for the treatment or prevention of a condition in a mammal which is modulated by LXR, comprising administering to a mammal in need thereof a therapeutically effective dose of a compound according to claim 1.
- 92. A method according to claim 91 wherein the condition treated is atherosclerosis.
- 93. A method according to claim 91 wherein the condition treated is dyslipidemia.
- 94. A method according to claim 91 wherein the condition treated is diabetes.
- 95. A method according to claim 91 wherein the condition treated is Alzheimers disease.
- 96. A method according to claim 91 wherein the condition treated is Niemann-Pick disease.
