Claims
- 1. An article of thermoplastic material adapted for being molded in a container, said article comprising a tubular neck portion including annular protuberances of hollow ring-shaped profile, and a tubular shoulder portion continuing from said neck portion, said neck portion having a wall the material of which is substantially monoaxially oriented and wherein annular protuberances are circumferentially expanded from said wall without axial strain of the monoaxially oriented material of said wall whereby the material in said neck portion is of substantially uniform thickness and monoaxially oriented therethroughout including said annular protuberances.
- 2. An article as claimed in claim 1 wherein the material of said annular protuberances of said neck portion is substantially unstretched in relation to the remainder of the wall of said neck portion.
- 3. An article as claimed in claim 2 wherein said shoulder portion is of the same thickness of said neck portion.
- 4. An article as claimed in claim 2 wherein said neck portion has an axial profile length therealong inclusive of said protuberances which is equal to the axial length of a cylindrical parison from which said annular protuberances have been circumferentially expanded.
- 5. An article as claimed in claim 1 wherein said thermoplastic material of said article is polyethylene terephthalate which is axially stretched about three times to produce the monoaxial orientation of the wall of said neck portion.
- 6. An article as claimed in claim 1 wherein said annular protuberances are circumferentially expanded from said wall at a temperature above the glass transition temperature of the thermoplastic material.
- 7. An article as claimed in claim 1 wherein said thermoplastic material of said parison is polyhexamethylene adipamide, polycaprolactam, polyhexamethylene sebacamide, polyethylene 2,6- and 1,5- napthalate, polytetramethylene 1,2- dioxybenzoate or copolymers of ethylene terephthalate and ethylene isophthalate.
- 8. An article of polyethylene terephthalate comprising a tubular neck portion having a wall whose material has been monoaxially oriented by stretching the material axially about three times its length and including annular protuberances of hollow ring-shaped profile which are circumferentially expanded from the material of said wall of said neck portion substantially without axial strain.
- 9. An article as claimed in claim 8 wherein said annular protuberances are circumferentially expanded from said wall at a temperature above the glass transition temperature of the thermoplastic material.
