Claims
- 1. An elasticizable tape, comprising:
- a ribbon composed of a thermally-elasticizable material having an activation temperature at which said elasticizable material shrinks and is rendered elastic; and
- a layer of hot melt, pressure-sensitive adhesive disposed on a surface of said ribbon to provide a heat recoverable, elastomeric tape, wherein said adhesive has a hot melt extrusion temperature which is higher than said activation temperature of said ribbon, said adhesive is composed of a base polymer and a tackifier resin, said adhesive is sufficiently conformed and bonded to said ribbon so that said ribbon is securable to an article with said adhesive, and wherein said ribbon is activatable by the application of heat to shir a body of gatherable material on the article.
- 2. An elasticizable tape as recited in claim 1, wherein said layer of hot melt adhesive is in the form of one or more spaced parallel lines extending longitudinally of the ribbon.
- 3. An elasticizable tape as in claim 1, wherein said hot melt adhesive is disposed in a continuous layer on the surface of said ribbon.
- 4. An elasticizable tape, comprising:
- a ribbon composed of a thermally-elasticizable material having an activation temperature at which said elasticizable material shrinks and is rendered elastic; and
- a layer of hot melt adhesive disposed on a surface of said ribbon to provide a heat recoverable, elastomeric tape, wherein said ribbon activation temperature is within the range of about 125.degree.-230.degree. F., said adhesive has a hot melt extrusion temperature which is higher than said ribbon activation temperature, said adhesive is composed of a base polymer and a tackifier resin, said adhesive is sufficiently conformed and bonded to said ribbon so that said ribbon is securable to an article with said adhesive, and wherein said ribbon is activatable by the application of heat to shir a body of gatherable material on the article.
- 5. An elasticizable tape, comprising:
- a ribbon composed of a thermally-elasticizable material having an activation temperature at which said elasticizable material shrinks and is rendered elastic; and
- a layer of hot melt, pressure-sensitive adhesive disposed on a surface of said ribbon to provide a heat recoverable, elastomeric tape, wherein said adhesive has a hot melt extrusion temperature which is higher than said activation temperature of said ribbon, said adhesive is composed of a base polymer and a tackifier resin and is extrudable at a temperature of from about 280.degree. F. to about 375.degree. F., said adhesive is sufficiently conformed and bonded to said ribbon so that said ribbon is securable to an article with said adhesive, and wherein said ribbon is activatable by the application of heat to shir a body of gatherable material on the article.
- 6. An elasticizable tape as in claim 5, wherein said layer of hot melt adhesive is in the form of one or more spaced parallel lines extending longitudinally of the ribbon.
- 7. An elasticizable tape as in claim 5, wherein said hot melt adhesive is disposed in a continuous layer on the surface of said ribbon.
- 8. An elasticizable tape as recited in claim 5, wherein said ribbon has an activation temperature within the range of about 125 .degree.-230.degree. F.
- 9. An elasticizable tape as recited in claim 5, wherein said ribbon has an activation temperature within the range of about 180.degree.-200.degree. F.
