Claims
- 1. A tractor which comprises:
- means for driving the tractor comprising only one engine;
- front and rear sets of ground wheels having respectively front and rear axes of rotation, all of said ground wheels driven by said engine;
- a frame which comprises a front portion and a rear portion, said portions being pivotable relative to each other about a substantially vertical axis located between said front and rear horizontal axes of said ground wheels, said engine being mounted on said front portion of said frame;
- an operator's seat and operating controls including steering controls from which the tractor is steerable and controllable, a console proximate said operator's seat, at least part of said steering and operating controls being mounted on said console;
- a cabin mounted on said rear portion of said frame as seen in side view above said rear set of said ground wheels whereby said cabin extends both forward and to the rear of said rear axis of rotation as seen in plan, said console together with said operator's seat and said controls being mounted on said rear portion of said frame and being turnable through substantially 180.degree. about a substantially vertical axis of a pivot disposed under said seat within said cabin which is not so turnable, and means being provided to retain said console including said operator's seat and controls in a position selected from one in which an operator occupying said seat faces generally forward and one in which such operator faces generally rearward of the tractor, said seat being at least in part directly vertically above the front half of said rear ground wheels as seen from the side in both said selected positions;
- a lifting device extending rearwardly from said rear portion of said frame near said cabin whereby an operator in said seat has a direct view of an implement attached to said lifting device.
- 2. A tractor in accordance with claim 1, wherein at least part of said engine, as seen in plane view, is disposed forward of the horizontal axis of said forward ground wheels and completely forward of said vertical axis between said front and rear horizontal axes.
- 3. A tractor in accordance with claim 1, wherein said operator's seat, as seen in side view, is in one of said positions, spaced above the tops of at least some of said ground wheels in said rear set of ground wheels.
- 4. A tractor in accordance with claim 1, wherein said operator's seat, as seen in side view, when facing generally forward is disposed directly above the horizontal axis for said rear set of ground wheels.
- 5. A tractor in accordance with claim 1, wherein said operator's seat when in a position whereby it is facing to the rear is, as seen in side view, disposed above the front region of at least some of said ground wheels of said rear set of ground wheels.
- 6. A tractor in accordance with claim 1 wherein substantially all of said cabin and all of said seat as seen in side view, are mounted on said rear portion of said frame vertically above said rear set of ground wheels.
- 7. A tractor in accordance with claim 1, wherein said lifting device extends to the rear from between two of said wheels of said rear set of ground wheels.
- 8. A tractor in accordance with claim 1, comprising at least one fuel tank, said fuel tank being mounted in front of said front set of ground wheels, supported by said front portion and completely laterally spaced from the tractor's longitudinal vertical plane of symmetry.
- 9. A tractor comprising:
- means for driving the tractor which comprises only one engine as a power plant for both propulsion and lifting purposes;
- front and rear sets of ground wheels having respective front and rear horizontal axes of rotation, both said sets being driven by said engine;
- a frame which comprises front and rear portions, said portions being pivotable relative to one another about a substantially vertical axis located between front and rear horizontal axes of rotation of said ground wheels;
- an operator's seat and controls including steering controls from which the tractor is steerable and controllable, said operator's seat together with said controls being mounted on said frame above the axis of rotation of said rear set of ground wheels and being turnable through substantially 180.degree. about a substantially vertical pivot havig a vertical axis which extends through said seat, and means being provided to retain said operator's seat and controls in a position selected from one in which said operator occupying said seat faces generally forward and one in which said operator faces generally rearward of said tractor, said operator's seat being directly vertically above said rear horizontal axis of rotation of s aid rear set ground wheels when facing forward, at least part of said seat in both said positions being spaced vertically above the forward halves of said rear set of ground wheels as seen from the side.
- 10. A tractor in accordance with claim 9, wherein said operator's seat and controls are contained in a cabin which is mounted directly above said set of rear ground wheels, as seen in side view, said cabin not being turnable relative to said rear portion of said frame.
- 11. A tractor in accordance with claim 10, including a console wherein said seat, together with said steering and operating controls, is mounted on said console in said cabin.
- 12. A tractor in accordance with claim 9, comprising at least one fuel tank wherein said engine is spaced forward of said front set of ground wheels and said fuel tank is carried on said front frame portion laterally from said engine and directly in front of at least some of said front ground wheels.
