Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present specification relates generally to cosmetic accessories, and more particularly to a hair piece configured in a ponytail style and shape, the hair piece including a hollow tubular base member to which hair is sewn thereto.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The following includes information that may be useful in understanding the present disclosure. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art nor material to the presently described or claimed inventions, nor that any publication or document that is specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.

Wigs have been utilized for decades by both men and women. As is known in the art, wigs typically have a skull cap to which the hair is secured thereto and the cap is placed on the user's head. The hair of the wig is provided in numerous styles, colors and lengths. Individuals choose to wear wigs for various reasons such as but not limited to providing a different appearance or covering up thinning hair or a bald head. There are numerous types of wigs and additionally other hair treatments such as but not limited to extensions are also popular.

Women in particular occasionally favor to have long hair for a desired appearance. Many women will choose to place the long hair in a ponytail as this is a popular style for long hair. Those women that desire to have a ponytail sometimes need artificial hair in order to achieve the desired look. While ponytail style wigs are available there are some deficiencies with the existing technology. One issue with conventional ponytail style wigs is the ability to completely hide the natural hair of the wearer. Most conventional ponytail style wigs have difficulties hiding the hair to which it is secured. Additionally, these conventional ponytail style wigs are not designed for long term wear due to their design.

Accordingly, there is a need for an improved hair piece that reduces or mitigates some of these issues. In particular, tit would be desirable for the improved hair piece to provide a ponytail style wig that is capable of completely hiding the natural hair of the user and/or further can be configured for long term wear by the user.

Accordingly, there remains a need for improvements in the art.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In accordance with an aspect of the invention, there is provided a hair piece for a human wearer, comprising: a base member; the base member being tubular in shape with a top opening, a bottom end and a hollow interior volume; the base member further comprising wig hair secured thereto to provide the hair piece; and a securing member, the securing member attached to the base member proximate to the top opening; wherein the base member is operative to receive a portion of the wearer's hair in the hollow interior volume; wherein the securing member is at least partially secured to the wearer's hair, and wherein the hair piece, when secured, presents a ponytail style wig for the wearer.

The base member may be shaped as one of: a cylinder, a truncated cone, and a cone skid. The securing member may comprises one of: a hook-and-loop fastener, a magnetic fastener, and a Velcro™ fastener.

The base member may further comprise a mesh netting, wherein the wearer's hair can be secured to the mesh netting. The securing member may further comprise a secondary hair segment attached thereto such that the secondary hair segment conceals the securing member when the securing member is in a secured position to the wearer's hair.

According to further embodiments, the wig hair may be secured to the base member in a helical pattern. The wig hair may also be wefted horizontally from the bottom end of the base member to the top opening of the base member. The top opening may further comprise a drawstring operative to open and close the top opening.

In accordance with another aspect of the invention, there is provided a method of attaching a hair piece to a human wearer's natural hair, comprising: inserting the wearer's natural hair into a base member, the base member being tubular in shape with a top opening, a bottom end and a hollow interior volume operative to receive the wearer's natural hair through the top opening, the base member further comprising wig hair secured thereto to provide the hair piece; securing the base member to the wearer's natural hair with a securing member, the securing member attached to the base member proximate to the top opening, wherein the hair piece provides presents a ponytail style wig for the wearer.

For purposes of summarizing the invention, certain aspects, advantages, and novel features of the invention have been described herein. It is to be understood that not necessarily all such advantages may be achieved in accordance with any one particular embodiment of the invention. Thus, the invention may be embodied or carried out in a manner that achieves or optimizes one advantage or group of advantages as taught herein without necessarily achieving other advantages as may be taught or suggested herein. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE EMBODIMENTS

The present invention relates generally to cosmetic hair pieces, and more particularly to a hair piece which provides a ponytail style wig.

According to an embodiment as shown in FIGS. 1-5, a hair piece 100 is comprised of a base member 110 and a securing member 120. The base member 110 provides the ponytail style wig and the securing member 120 provides a mechanism to secure the base member 110 to the wearer's hair or head with a portion of the wearer's natural hair being inserted into the base member 110.

Base member 110 is generally cylindrical in shape, with a hollow interior volume with an opening 130 at the top end of the base member 110 for insertion of the wearer's natural hair. The wig hair 140 for the hair piece 100 is secured to the base member 110, preferably in a helical manner from the bottom end 125 of base member 110 to the opening 130. While base member 110 is generally cylindrical, other equivalent shapes, such as a cone or a truncated cone, may also be used.

The wig hair 140 may be provided in any desired color and style. However, it is generally contemplated that the color of the wig hair 140 is the same or very similar to the wearer's natural hair color (e.g. blonde, brown, black, etc.). Similarly, it is generally contemplated that the style of the wig hair 140 is also the same or very similar to the wearer's natural hair style (e.g. straight, wavy, curly).

The base member 110 may further comprise mesh netting 145 which enables the wearer's natural hair to secured directly to the base member 110, preferably through the use of bobby pins or similar methods.

The securing member 120 comprises a length of material of sufficient length to wrap around the wearer's hair and the opening 130 of base member 110. The securing member 120 may be fastened in a variety of methods, including, but not limited to, a hook-and-loop fastener, a magnetic fastener, and a Velcro™ fastener.

The securing member 120 may further include a secondary hair segment 160 which is secured and positioned such that, when the securing member 120 is fastened in place to the wearer's hair, the secondary hair segment 160 conceals the securing member from casual view. Preferably, the secondary hair segment 160 is of the same color and style as wig hair 140.

In use, the hair piece 100 is securing to the wearer's hair as shown in FIG. 5 to present a ponytail style wig which is secured to and physically matches to the wearer's hair. The color and style of the hair piece 100 may also match the color and style of the wearer's hair as discussed above.

The wig hair 140 used in the hair piece 100 may be natural hair, synthetic hair, of a combination thereof. As discussed above, the wig hair may be of any desired color and style, whether naturally occurring or artificial.

It should also be noted that the steps described in the method of use can be carried out in many different orders according to user preference. The use of “step of” should not be interpreted as “step for”, in the claims herein. It should also be noted that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as design preference, user preferences, marketing preferences, cost, structural requirements, available materials, technological advances, etc., other methods are taught herein.

The embodiments of the invention described herein are exemplary and numerous modifications, variations and rearrangements can be readily envisioned to achieve substantially equivalent results, all of which are intended to be embraced within the spirit and scope of the invention. Further, the purpose of the foregoing abstract is to enable the Patent and Trademark Office and the public generally, and especially the scientist, engineers and practitioners in the art who are not familiar with patent or legal terms or phraseology, to determine quickly from a cursory inspection the nature and essence of the technical disclosure of the application.

The present invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential characteristics thereof. Certain adaptations and modifications of the invention will be obvious to those skilled in the art. Therefore, the presently discussed embodiments are considered to be illustrative and not restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claims rather than the foregoing description and all changes which come within the meaning and range of equivalency of the claims are therefore intended to be embraced therein.
