Claims
- 1. An apparatus for heating and mixing asphalt-aggregate composition comprising:
- a rotatable drum having an open port at one end thereof, a burner member for introducing hot gases of combustion into said drum through said open port, and wherein exhaust gases from within said drum are vented substantially only through said open port,
- a recovery port having closure means cooperating therewith for selectively opening and closing said recovery port, and located adjacent a drum end opposite said open port, and
- a chute member, having an inclined surface secured adjacent said open port having a lower edge extending across said open port wherein composition on said inclined surface falls gravitationally through said open port into said drum.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said lower edge extends to approximately the horizontal center of said open port, and said burner member directs hot gases into said open port below said lower edge.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein said chute member comprises a substantially flat surfaced and inclined plate.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said recovery port is located on the side of said drum.
- 5. A method of heating asphalt-aggregate composition in a drum comprising:
- directing flame and hot gases of combustion into said drum through a port, introducing said composition into said drum through said port, burning hydrocarbon gases for said composition in said drum, venting said burned gases for said drum substantially only through said port, and deflecting said gases upwardly into the atmosphere.
- 6. The method of claim 5 wherein said deflecting comprises providing an inclined plate adjacent said drum port whereby burned gases vented from said drum through said port are deflected upwardly by said plate
- 7. A method of claim 6 wherein said introducing composition into said drum includes a step of placing composition on said inclined plate.
