Abstract
Apparatus for the conversion of an all terrain vehicle from conventional road use to use on railroad tracks is provided and comprises comprising a wheel, hub, spring suspension means and a hub extension mounted forward of the frame, the apparatus comprising a support arm attached at one end to the wheel extension and at the other end to the suspension means, a base plate pivotally mounted on the support arm, a railway wheel associated with the base plate and adapted to rotate.
Description
A. #1 STEEL ATV WHEEL HUB.

It is constructed from two pieces of steel, having a steel round base plate (6″ diameter×½″ thick) welded to a (2¼″ diameter×3¼″ length×½″ thick steel female threaded round pipe, with a 1×¼″ diameter center, threaded at ¼″ threads. The hub plate is then drilled to the Atv's lug bolt diameter configurations and the drilled holes on the plate are Chamfered to except the Atv's lug nuts. Which are tightened with a lug wrench to secure the hub to the wheel rim of the Atv.

B. #2 STEEL AXEL

Next a 13″ long×1¼″ diameter round steel AXEL, male threaded ¼″ the full 13″ Length of the AXEL, Is screwed into the wheel Hub until it bottoms out at the base plate of the Hub.

C. #3 STEEL LOCKING AXEL NUT

The first (#1) LOCKING AXEL NUT is made of ½″ thick×3½″ diameter round plate steel, With a 1¼″ diameter center hole, that is ¼″ threaded. This AXEL NUT is spun onto the 13″ AXEL, until it seats up against the Wheel Hub Locking the Axel into the Wheel Hub.

D. #4 STEEL TENSION SPRING

A 6″× 11/2″ STEEL TENSION SPRING is then slid onto the AXEL, To give a minimal amount of movement between the first AXEL LOCKING NUT and Second AXEL LOCKING NUT. This maintains the set distance between ATV and RAIL WHEEL.

E. #5 STEEL LOCKING AXEL NUT

The second (2) LOCKING AXEL NUT is made of ½″ thick×3½″ diameter Round plate steel, with a 1¼″ diameter center hole, that is ¼″ threaded. This AXEL LOCKING NUT is spun onto the 13″ AXEL, until it seats up against the STEEL TENSION SPRING.

F. #6 RUBBER PROTECTIVE COVER

The RUBBER PROTECTIVE COVER is 11″ long×5½″ in diameter. This is no more then drain piping for irrigation, which works well for protection Of the AXEL, TENSION SPRING, and LOCKING NUTS. Actually any cylindrical rubber or plastic protective covering will work.

G. #7 RAIL WHEEL

The rail wheel is a 17″ truck rim, cut in half and the split ring is welded onto The wheel rim to provide the wheel with a rail flange. A center HUB is Made of 2¼″ diameter×1¼″ thick steel core with 1¼″ hole With ¼″ threading the full length of the core center. This is welded In center of RAIL WHEEL. The RAIL WHEEL then can be spun onto the 13″ AXEL until it is snug up against the second LOCKING NUT. The RAIL WHEEL can now be adjusted for the proper Distance between the ATV wheel rim and the ATV RAIL WHEEL to rest upon the rail. The rail wheel can be made of STEEL, ALUMINUM, ZYTEL NYLON, Or other Polymers. It can be made in different sizes to suit ones work or Recreational purposes.

H. #8 STEEL LOCKING AXEL NUT

The third (3) LOCKING AXEL NUT is made of ½″ thick×3½″ diameter Round plate steel, with a 1¼″ diameter center hole, that is ¼″ threaded. This AXEL LOCKING NUT is spun onto the 13″ AXEL, until it seats up against the outside RAIL WHEEL center hub. This last LOCKING AXEL NUT locks the RAIL WHEEL against The second steel LOCKING AXEL NUT securing it.

I. #9 RUBBER PROTECTIVE CAP

The RUBBER PROTECTIVE CAP is made of rubber or plastic. It is 1½″×1¼″ hollowed cap to fit over end of 13″ AXEL to protect the AXEL end.
