Claims
- 1. A personal wireless communication device, comprising:
a) a body section; b) a transceiver circuit; c) a transmitting antenna; d) a speaker connected electrically to said transceiver circuit for producing audible sounds; e) an earpiece for projecting sounds produced by said speaker, wherein said earpiece is designed for placement near a user's ear for listening to sound generated by said speaker, and f) an extending means connecting said earpiece to said body section for moving said earpiece between a retracted position and an extended position with respect to said body section; g) wherein said earpiece when in said extended position is positioned further away from said transmitting antenna than when in said retracted position.
- 2. The personal wireless communication device in claim 1, wherein said earpiece when in said extended position is positioned further away from said transceiver circuit than when in said retracted position.
- 3. The personal wireless communication device in claim 1, wherein said earpiece when in said extended position is positioned further away from said body section than when in said retracted position.
- 4. The personal wireless communication device in claim 1, wherein said speaker is mounted substantially within said earpiece.
- 5. The personal wireless communication device in claim 1, wherein said speaker is mounted substantially within said extending means, wherein said extending means comprises an air channel defined between said speaker and said earpiece, wherein a significant portion of the sound generated by the speaker is conducted to the earpiece.
- 6. The personal wireless communication device in claim 1, further comprising;
a speaker cover, wherein said speaker is mounted substantially within said body section, wherein said speaker cover is positioned near the speaker for collecting sound from the speaker, wherein said extending means comprises an interior air channel that audibly connects said speaker cover to said earpiece, and wherein a substantial portion of the sound generated by said speaker is conducted through said air channel to said earpiece.
- 7. The personal wireless communication device in claim 1, wherein said body section comprises a top end and a bottom end, wherein said bottom end is designed to be positioned substantially lower than said top end during use, and wherein said transmitting antenna is mounted closer to the bottom end than to the top end.
- 8. The personal wireless communication device in claim 7, wherein said extending means lowers the in use position of the bottom end with respect to the user.
- 9. The personal wireless communication device in claim 1, wherein said earpiece is an ear-bud style earpiece.
- 10. The personal wireless communication device in claim 1, wherein said transceiver circuit is mounted substantially in said body section, and wherein said earpiece when in said extended position is positioned further away from said transceiver circuit than when in said retracted position.
- 11. The personal wireless communication device in claim 1, wherein said personal wireless communication device and earpiece are usable by the user in both said extended and retracted positions.
- 12. The personal wireless communication device in claim 1, wherein said extending means comprising a biasing mechanism and a release mechanism, wherein said biasing mechanism tends to extend said earpiece, wherein said release mechanism is designed to hold the extending means in the retracted position and release the extending means from the retracted position when activated.
- 13. The personal wireless communication device in claim 12, wherein the user can release the extending means and extend the earpiece with one hand.
- 14. The personal wireless communication device in claim 12, wherein said biasing mechanism comprises a biasing spring.
- 15. The personal wireless communication device in claim 12, wherein said speaker is connected to said body section.
- 16. The personal wireless communication device in claim 12, wherein said personal wireless communication device and earpiece are usable by the user in both said extended and retracted positions.
- 17. The personal wireless communication device in claim 12, wherein said earpiece is an ear-bud style earpiece.
- 18. The personal wireless communication device in claim 12, wherein said body section comprises a top end and a bottom end, wherein said bottom end is designed to be positioned substantially lower than said top end during use, wherein said transmitting antenna is mounted closer to the bottom end than the top end.
- 19. The personal wireless communication device in claim 18, wherein said extending means lowers the in use position of the bottom end with respect to the user.
- 20. The personal wireless communication device in claim 18, wherein said transmitting antenna is a directional antenna designed to directionally transmit the strongest electromagnetic signals away from the user's head.
- 21. The personal wireless communication device in claim 12, wherein said extending means comprising an extendible arm, wherein said earpiece is connected to said extendible arm at an angle, wherein when said earpiece is positioned against the user's ear for use the extension arm and phone body angle away from the user's face and head.
- 22. An attachment cover for use with a personal wireless communication device having a speaker, a transmitting antenna, and a microphone, said attachment cover comprising:
a) a sound conducting means comprising a first end and a second end; b) a connecting means for attaching said attachment cover to a personal wireless communication device having a speaker, a transmitting antenna, and a microphone; c) wherein said sound conducting means is adapted for collecting a significant portion of the sound generated by the speaker of the personal wireless communication device at said first end and conducting the sound through said sound conducting means and out said second end, wherein a user may place their ear near said second end to listen to sound generated by the speaker of the personal wireless communication device.
- 23. The attachment cover in claim 22, wherein said sound conducting means comprises an elongated air channel, wherein said first end is a speaker cover end for directing sound generated by the speaker of the personal wireless communication device into said elongated air channel and out said second end.
- 24. The attachment cover in claim 22, further comprising;
an ear-bud style earpiece connected to said second end of the sound conducting means.
- 25. The attachment cover in claim 22, wherein said connecting means comprising a shroud for removable attachment to the personal wireless communication device, wherein said shroud is designed to fit over the speaker area of the personal wireless communication device, wherein sound is conducted from the speaker, into the first end, through the sound conducting means, and out said second end.
- 26. The attachment cover in claim 25, wherein said sound conducting means comprises an extendible arm, wherein said extendible arm is movable to an extended position and a retracted position, wherein said second end when in said extended position is located substantially further away from the transmitting antenna than when in said retracted position.
- 27. The attachment cover in claim 22, wherein said connecting means comprising a removable faceplate for removable attachment to the personal wireless communication device, wherein said sound conducting means is attached to said removable faceplate.
- 28. The attachment cover in claim 22, wherein said connecting means comprising a housing for enclosing the personal wireless communication device.
- 29. The attachment cover in claim 22, wherein said sound conducting means comprising an extending means for extending the sound conducting means, wherein upon extension of said extending means said second end is extended to an extended position and upon retraction of the extending means the second end is retracted to a retracted position, wherein said second end when in said extended position is located substantially further away from the transmitting antenna than when in said retracted position.
- 30. The attachment cover in claim 29, wherein said extending means comprises an elongated channel attached to said connecting means and an extendible arm slidable within said elongated channel, wherein said extendible arm is slidable to said extended position and said retracted position.
- 31. The attachment cover in claim 29, wherein said extending means comprising an elongated channel, a pivot joint, and an extendible arm, wherein said elongated channel is connected to said connecting means, wherein said pivot joint is connected to both said elongated channel and said extendible arm, wherein a substantially continuous air passageway is formed between the speaker and said second end.
- 32. The attachment cover in claim 29, wherein said connecting means comprising a shroud for removable attachment to the personal wireless communication device, wherein said shroud is designed to fit over the speaker area of the personal wireless communication device, wherein sound is conducted from the speaker, into the first end, through the sound conducting means, and out said second end.
- 33. The attachment cover in claim 29, wherein said connecting means comprising a removable faceplate for removable attachment to the personal wireless communication device, wherein said sound conducting means is attached to said removable faceplate.
- 34. The attachment cover in claim 29, wherein said connecting means comprising a housing for enclosing the personal wireless communication device.
- 35. The attachment cover in claim 29, wherein said second end is usable for listening in both said extended position and said retracted position.
- 36. The attachment cover in claim 29, further including;
a biasing spring for automatically extending said extendible arm in response to activation of a latching means on said body section for holding and releasing said extendible arm from its retracted position.
- 37. The attachment cover in claim 29, wherein said body section comprises a top end and a bottom end, wherein said bottom end is designed to be positioned substantially lower than said top end during use, wherein said transmitting antenna is mounted closer to the bottom end than the top end.
- 38. A personal wireless communication device, comprising:
a) a phone body enclosing a transceiver circuit of a personal wireless communication device, wherein said transceiver circuit comprising a transmitting antenna, a speaker, and a microphone, wherein said phone body comprises a top end and a bottom end, wherein said bottom end is designed to be positioned substantially lower than said top end during use by a listener, and wherein said transmitting antenna is mounted closer to the bottom end than to the top end, and b) an arm comprising a first end and a second end, wherein said first end is connected to said phone body, wherein said second end comprises an earpiece designed for placement near a user's ear for listening, wherein during use by the listener said earpiece is positioned substantially above said top end, wherein said arm is made of a flexible material and sufficient rigidity to be held near the listener's ear during use; c) wherein, sound generated by the speaker is projected out to the listener through the earpiece.
- 39. The attachment cover in claim 38, wherein the speaker is mounted within said phone body and said arm comprises an elongated air channel for conducting sound generated by the speaker out through the earpiece.
- 40. The attachment cover in claim 38, wherein said arm is extendible to an extended position and a retracted position, wherein said arm comprises an elongated air channel passing through said arm from said first end to said earpiece, wherein sound generated by the speaker is directed into said elongated air channel and out through said earpiece, wherein said earpiece when in said extended position is positioned further away from said transmitting antenna than when in said retracted position.
- 41. The personal wireless communication device in claim 40, wherein said personal wireless communication device is functional with said earpiece in both said extended position and said retracted position.
- 42. The personal wireless communication device in claim 38, wherein said earpiece is an opening near the second end of the arm.
