Claims
- 1. A method for uniquely labeling a stationary object having unique relative coordinates within a group of stationary bundled objects without employing preprinted attachable labels, comprising the steps of:
- scanning said group of objects with energy;
- receiving reflected scan energy from said group into a computer controlled apparatus;
- determining from said reflected scan energy said unique relative coordinates of said stationary object within said group of stationary bundled objects using said computer controlled apparatus prior to spraying self adhering materials to any of said object;
- storing data representative of said determined unique relative coordinates of said object, and
- spraying said self adhering materials in separate geometric areas with varying reflective properties to create a uniquely identifying pattern on said object responsive to said data storage means.
- 2. The invention of claim 1 wherein said group of objects are substantially aligned along their longitudinal axis.
- 3. The invention of claim 2 wherein said group of objects' end surface is substantially perpendicular to said longitudinal axis.
- 4. The invention of claim 3 wherein said objects in said group are stacked upon each other to form said group.
- 5. The invention of claim 1 wherein said step for storing data representative of the determined coordinates of the object comprises a computer system.
- 6. The invention of claim 1 wherein said step for spaying self adhering materials in separate geometric areas with varying reflective properties to create a uniquely identifying pattern responsive to said data storage means comprises the steps of:
- accepting from said data storage means said unique relative coordinates of said object, and
- controllably spraying multiple of said self adhering materials from separate reservoirs onto said object responsive to said unique relative coordinates.
- 7. The invention of claim 6 wherein said step for controllably spraying multiple of said self adhering materials from separate reservoirs onto said object comprises the steps of:
- turning off multiple electrostatically directed wedge shaped spray nozzles in fluid communication with said reservoirs;
- moving said nozzles throughout a prescribed vertical-horizontal plane to the desired predetermined unique relative coordinates of said object, and
- conditionally turning on and off or more of said multiple electrostatically directed wedge shaped spray nozzles so as to spray said self adhering materials in separate geometric areas on said object.
- 8. An automatic means for uniquely labeling a stationary object having unique relative coordinates within a group of stationary bundled objects without employing preprinted attachable labels, comprising:
- means for determining the unique relative coordinates of said stationary object within said group of stationary bundled objects,
- means for storing data representative of said determined coordinates of said object, and
- means responsive to said data storage means for spraying self adhering materials in separate geometric areas with varying reflective properties to create a uniquely identifying pattern on said object.
- 9. The invention of claim 8 wherein said means for determining the unique relative coordinates of said object comprises:
- means for determining end topology information relating to said group of objects, and
- means for determining said unique relative coordinates of said object from said end topology information.
- 10. The invention of claim 9 wherein said means for determining end topology information relating to said group of objects comprises:
- means for automatically scanning said group of objects with energy;
- means for receiving reflected scan energy from said group, and
- means for determining from said reflected scan energy said end topology relating to said group of objects.
- 11. The invention of claim 10 wherein said group of objects are substantially aligned along their longitudinal axis.
- 12. The invention of claim 11 wherein said group of objects' end surface is substantially perpendicular to said longitudinal axis.
- 13. The invention of claim 12 wherein said objects in said group are stacked upon each other to form said group.
- 14. The invention of claim 8 wherein said means for storing data representative of the determined coordinates of the object comprises a computer system.
- 15. The invention of claim 8 wherein said means responsive to said data storage means for spraying self adhering materials in separate geometric areas with varying reflective properties to create a uniquely identifying pattern comprises:
- means for accepting from said data storage means said unique relative coordinates of said object, and
- means responsive to said unique relative coordinates for controllably spraying multiple of said self adhering materials from separate reservoirs onto said object.
- 16. The invention of claim 15 wherein said means for controllably spraying multiple of said self adhering materials from separate reservoirs onto said object comprises:
- multiple electrostatically directed wedge shaped spray nozzles in fluid communication with said reservoirs;
- means attached to said spray nozzles for moving said nozzles throughout a prescribed vertical-horizontal plane, and
- computer means responsive to said unique relative coordinates for directing the exact placement throughout said plane and for turning on and off of said spray nozzles.
