TECHNICAL FIELD

The present disclosure relates to handling an in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) container, such as sample tubes or reagent cartridges, in an IVD laboratory.

BACKGROUND

IVD testing has a major effect on medical decisions, providing physicians with pivotal information. IVD testing is usually performed in IVD laboratories, which in many cases can have a significant number of IVD laboratory instruments. In an IVD laboratory, a plurality of IVD containers, for example comprising biological samples, have to be handled, in particular, automatically. Typically, the plurality of IVD containers are each handled by multiple IVD instruments, for example first by a pre-analytic IVD laboratory instrument, then by an analytic IVD laboratory instrument, and later possibly by a post-analytic IVD laboratory instrument. The handling of IVD containers should be done with particular care, since the IVD containers often are fragile and any mistake in handling the IVD containers may lead to unwanted or even dangerous effects, such as, e.g., cross-contamination.
