Claims
- 1. An adjustable cervical collar comprising:(a) an elongated neck encircling band; (b) a sternum and shoulder brace adjustably secured to the elongated neck encircling band; (c) a chin support brace secured to the elongated neck encircling band or the sternum and shoulder brace; (d) an adjustment system means adjustably securing the elongated neck encircling band to the sternum and shoulder brace for adjusting the height of the sternum and shoulder brace in relation to the elongated neck encircling band; (e) a locking mechanism for the adjustment system means, the locking mechanism prevents retrograde movement; and (f) a positive alignment means for maintaining the sternum and shoulder brace in parallel alignment with the elongated neck encircling band as the height of the sternum and shoulder brace is adjusted in relation to the elongated neck encircling band.
- 2. The adjustable cervical collar of claim 1 wherein the locking mechanism stops all sliding of the adjustment system means by engaging a tab system.
- 3. The adjustable cervical collar of claim 2 wherein the tab system snaps to provide positive locking.
- 4. The adjustable cervical collar of claim 1 wherein the locking mechanism stops all sliding of the adjustment system means by sliding and engaging a pin in positive locking.
- 5. The adjustable cervical collar of claim 4 wherein the pin engages a ratchet locking mechanism in positive locking.
- 6. The adjustable cervical collar of claim 5 wherein the pin slides between three positions, the three positions are:a first position permitting the sternum and shoulder brace to move in either of two opposite directions, a first direction increasing the height of the sternum and shoulder brace in relation to the elongated neck band and a second direction decreasing the height of the sternum and shoulder brace in relation to the elongated neck band; a second position permitting the sternum and shoulder brace to move only in the first direction; and a third position preventing the sternum and shoulder brace from moving.
- 7. The adjustable cervical collar of claim 1 wherein the locking mechanism includes a pin and ratchet locking mechanism wherein the pin slides to engage ratchet teeth.
- 8. The adjustable cervical collar of claim 1 wherein the adjustment system means includes a ratchet teeth and pawl system.
- 9. The adjustable cervical collar of claim 1 wherein the chin support brace is a single preformed piece.
- 10. The adjustable cervical collar of claim 9 wherein the chin support brace is a single preformed piece integral to the elongated neck encircling band.
- 11. The adjustable cervical collar of claim 9 wherein the chin support brace is a single preformed piece integral to the sternum and shoulder brace.
- 12. An adjustable cervical collar comprising:(a) an elongated neck encircling band; (b) a sternum and shoulder brace adjustably secured to the elongated neck encircling band; (c) a chin support brace secured to the elongated neck encircling band or the sternum and shoulder brace; (d) an adjustment system means adjustably securing the elongated neck encircling band to the sternum and shoulder brace for adjusting the height of the sternum and shoulder brace in relation to the elongated neck encircling band; (e) a locking mechanism for the adjustment system means, the locking mechanism has a locking stop means, the locking mechanism stops sliding of the adjustment system means in at least one direction by engaging a tab system; and (f) a positive alignment means for maintaining the sternum and shoulder brace in parallel alignment with the elongated neck encircling band as the height of the sternum and shoulder brace is adjusted in relation to the elongated neck encircling band.
- 13. The adjustable cervical collar of claim 12 wherein the tab system stops all sliding of the adjustment system means in positive locking.
- 14. The adjustable cervical collar of claim 12 wherein the tab system engages a ratchet locking mechanism in positive locking.
- 15. An adjustable cervical collar comprising:(a) an elongated neck encircling band; (b) a sternum and shoulder brace adjustably secured to the elongated neck encircling band; (c) a chin support brace secured to the elongated neck encircling band or the sternum and shoulder brace wherein the chin support brace is a single preformed piece; (d) an adjustment system means adjustably securing the elongated neck encircling band to the sternum and shoulder brace for adjusting the height of the sternum and shoulder brace in relation to the elongated neck encircling band; (e) a locking mechanism for the adjustment system means, the locking mechanism provides positive locking; and (f) a positive alignment means for maintaining the sternum and shoulder brace in parallel alignment with the elongated neck encircling band as the height of the sternum and shoulder brace is adjusted in relation to the elongated neck encircling band.
- 16. The adjustable cervical collar of claim 15 wherein the chin support brace is a single preformed piece integral to the elongated neck encircling band.
- 17. The adjustable cervical collar of claim 15 wherein the chin support brace is a single preformed piece integral to the sternum and shoulder brace.
- 18. The adjustable cervical collar of claim 15 wherein the locking mechanism stops all sliding of the adjustment system means by sliding and engaging a pin in positive locking.
- 19. The adjustable cervical collar of claim 18 wherein the locking mechanism stops all sliding of the adjustment system means by sliding and engaging a pin in a ratchet locking mechanism.
- 20. The adjustable cervical collar of claim 15 wherein the adjustment system means includes a tab system.
