Claims
- 1. An automatic dishwashing composition comprising:
- (a) an amount sufficient to provide from about 0.1 ppm to about 50 ppm in aqueous solution of a cobalt catalyst having the formula:
- �Co(NH.sub.3).sub.n (X).sub.m !T.sub.y
- wherein cobalt is in the +3 oxidation state, n is an integer from 3 to 5; X is one or more labile coordinating moieties; m is an integer from 1 to 3; m+n=6; and T is one or more appropriately selected counteranions present in a number y, where y is an integer from 0 to 3, to obtain a balanced salt;
- (b) from about 0.1% to about 30% by weight of the composition of a source of hydrogen peroxide;
- (c) from about 0.1% to about 10% by weight of the composition of a low foaming nonionic surfactant having a cloud point of a 1% solution in water of below about 32.degree. C.; and
- (d) from about 30% to about 99.9% of automatic dishwashing adjunct materials;
- wherein a 1% aqueous solution of said automatic dishwashing composition has a pH of less than 11.
- 2. An automatic dishwashing detergent composition according to claim 1 comprising automatic dishwashing adjunct material selected such that the composition produces less than 2 inches of suds under normal use conditions.
- 3. An automatic dishwashing detergent composition according to claim 1 comprising as part or all of the automatic dishwashing adjunct material one or more material care agents.
- 4. An automatic dishwashing detergent composition according to claim 1 comprising as part or all of the automatic dishwashing adjunct material one or more water soluble silicates.
- 5. An automatic dishwashing detergent composition according to claim 1 comprising as part or all of the automatic dishwashing adjunct material one or more bleach activators.
- 6. An automatic dishwashing detergent composition according to claim 5 wherein the bleach activator is TAED.
- 7. An automatic dishwashing detergent composition according to claim 2 comprising a cobalt catalyst of the formula:
- �Co(NH.sub.3).sub.5 Cl!T.sub.y.

- 8. An automatic dishwashing composition comprising:
- (a) an amount sufficient to provide from about 0.1 ppm to about 50 ppm in aqueous solution of a cobalt catalyst having the formula:
- �Co(NH.sub.3).sub.5 Cl!Cl.sub.2
- (b) from about 0.1% to about 30% by weight of the composition of a source of hydrogen peroxide selected from the group consisting of perborate, percarbonate, and mixtures therefor;
- (c) from about 0.1% to about 10% by weight of the composition of a low foaming nonionic surfactant having a cloud point of a 1% solution in water of below about 32.degree. C.; and
- (d) from about 30% to about 99.9% of automatic dishwashing adjunct materials formulated to provide a low foaming automatic dishwashing composition for use in an automatic dishwashing machine and selected from the group consisting of builders, proteases, amylases, water soluble silicates, bleach activators and mixtures thereof;
- wherein a 1% aqueous solution of said automatic dishwashing composition has a pH of less than 11.
- 9. An automatic dishwashing detergent composition according to claim 8 comprising automatic dishwashing adjunct material selected such that the composition produces less than 2 inches of suds under normal use conditions.
- 10. A method of washing tableware in a domestic automatic dishwashing appliance, said method comprising treating the soiled tableware in an automatic dishwasher with an aqueous alkaline bath comprising an automatic dishwashing detergent composition according to claim 1.
- 11. A method according to claim 10 wherein the cobalt catalyst has the formula:
- �Co(NH.sub.3).sub.5 Cl!T.sub.y.
- 12. A method of washing tableware in a domestic automatic dishwashing appliance, said method comprising treating the soiled tableware in an automatic dishwasher with an aqueous alkaline bath comprising an automatic dishwashing detergent composition according to claim 8.
- 13. An automatic dishwashing rinse aid composition comprising:
- (a) an amount sufficient to provide from about 0.1 ppm to about 50 ppm in aqueous solution of a cobalt catalyst having the formula:
- �Co(NH.sub.3).sub.n (X).sub.m !T.sub.y
- wherein cobalt is in the +3 oxidation state, n is an integer from 3 to S; X is one or more labile coordinating moieties; m is an integer from 1 to 3; m+n=6; and T is one or more appropriately selected counteranions present in a number y, where y is an integer from 0 to 3, to obtain a charge balanced salt;
- (b) from about 0.1% to about 10% by weight of the composition of a low foaming nonionic surfactant having a cloud point of a 1% solution in water of below about 32.degree. C.; and
- (c) from about 30% to about 99.9% of automatic dishwashing adjunct materials;
- wherein a 1% aqueous solution of said automatic dishwashing rinse aid composition has a pH of less than 11.
- 14. An automatic dishwashing composition comprising:
- (a) an amount sufficient to provide from about 0.1 ppm to about 50 ppm in aqueous solution of a cobalt catalyst having the formula:
- �Co(NH.sub.3).sub.5 Cl!Cl.sub.2
- (b) from about 0.1% to about 30% by weight of the composition of a source of hydrogen peroxide selected from the group consisting of perborate, percarbonate, and mixtures therefor;
- (c) from about 0.1% to about 10% by weight of the composition of a low foaming nonionic surfactant having a cloud point of a 1% solution in water of below about 32.degree. C.; and
- (d) from about 30% to about 99.9% of automatic dishwashing adjunct materials formulated to provide a low foaming automatic dishwashing composition for use in an automatic dishwashing machine and selected from the group consisting of builders, proteases, amylases, water soluble silicates, bleach activators and mixtures thereof;
- wherein said composition is substantially free from anionic surfactants and a 1% aqueous solution of said automatic dishwashing composition has a pH of less than 11.
