Claims
- 1. An automatic dispensing machine for toilet paper comprising:a molded plastic housing; a take-off reel of paper material supported in an upper part of said plastic housing; a hinged cutting blade for cutting a portion of paper material fed by said reel; a support drum rotatably supported in a lower part of said housing; a start mechanism associated with said support drum and disposed on one side of said housing; a tensioning mechanism including a pressure component disposed in relation to said support drum which ensures feeding of a strip of paper material fed from said take-off reel to the support drum and ensures tensioning of the strip of paper material; a rack gear internally fixed on one side of said plastic housing; a toothed heel-shaped member associated with a shaft of said hinged cutting blade and said rack gear for moving said cutting blade between a cutting position and a non-cutting position relative to said strip of paper material; and a protective cover hingably connected to said plastic housing, said housing further including a front end shield and a rear wall, each of said front end shield and said rear wall being spaced relative to one another to permit positioning of the pressure component of said tensioning mechanism and said support drum therebetween, each of said front end shield and said rear wall having elastically deformable tongues, each of said deformable tongues including recesses for accommodating respective ends of the pressure component, said machine further including recesses for receiving respective ends of said support drum relative to said rear wall and said front end shield.
- 2. A dispensing machine as recited in claim 1, wherein each of the recesses for accommodating ends of the support drum and the pressure component relative to each of the front end shield and rear wall face each other and in which the elastically deformable tongues permit the pressure component to press against said support drum in a locked position relative to said housing.
- 3. A machine as claimed in claim 2, wherein said rear wall of the housing includes an opening in relation to said fixed rack gear, said fixed rack gear being mounted to said rear wall, said opening being sized to receive one end of said support drum and in which said elastically deformable tongue of said rear wall is surrounded by a substantially U-shaped cutout, said cutout having a pair of convergent legs, said deformable tongue forming a hook which includes said recess for receiving one end of said pressure component, said recess further including a ramp to permit insertion thereof, said cutout permitting access to allow quick assembly of said support drum and said pressure component.
- 4. A machine as claimed in claim 3, wherein said recess for accommodating the end of said support drum relative to said rear wall of said housing is provided by said fixed rack gear.
- 5. A machine as claimed in claim 3, wherein the front end shield includes an upper part which includes said elastically deformable tongue including the recess for accommodating one end of the pressure component and a lower part including the recess for receiving one end of the support drum.
- 6. A machine as claimed in claim 1, wherein the support drum includes a honeycomb structure including a pair of spaced end discs, said structure further including an integral end support shaft external to one of said end discs for supporting said rack gear at one end and an integral eccentric extension from the exterior of the other of said end discs, said eccentric extension including a throat and an exterior disc serving as an operating button for the machine.
- 7. A machine as claimed in claim 1, including a gooseneck-shaped bow extending internally from a bottom surface of said housing, said bow having a fork-joint shape at a free end thereof which is sized for surrounding a disc of said pressure component.
- 8. A machine as claimed in claim 1, including a paper ejection slit formed in a bottom surface of said housing, said machine further including a roller adjacent said slit for guiding a cut strip of paper material from said housing, said roller and said support drum being further connected by a transmission belt.
- 9. A machine as claimed in claim 1, wherein said support drum is a unitary member including an axial shaft having a plurality of adjacent discs disposed along said shaft in spaced relation, said plurality of discs including a pair of end discs and a plurality of intermediate discs for supporting the strip of paper material pulled from said reel, said intermediate discs having scalloped peripheral areas for receiving said hinged cutting blade in an idle position, said end discs including a front end disc and a back end disc, said back end disc including means for defining an interior chamber to accommodate said rack gear adapted to a fixed position, said cutting blade having at one end opposite said rack gear said toothed-heel shaped member comprising a plurality of teeth forming a matching rack gear capable of cooperating with said fixed rack gear on said drum during rotation of said drum, said machine further including means for limit stopping for ensuring that after partial rotation of the support drum, the hinged cutting blade is reengaged along a trajectory opposite to the direction of rotation of the drum into the scalloped peripheral areas on the intermediate discs of the drum during subsequent rotation of the drum, wherein said support drum is rotated by pulling a strip of paper material extending through the bottom of the machine.
- 10. Automatic dispensing machine for paper towels comprising:a molded plastic housing; a take-off reel of paper material supported in an upper part of said housing; a hinged cutting blade for cutting a portion of paper material; a support drum rotatably supported in a lower part of said housing; a start mechanism associated with said support drum disposed on one side of said housing; a pressure component disposed in relation to said support drum which ensures feeding of a strip of paper from said take-off reel to the support drum and ensures tensioning of the strip of paper; a rack gear internally fixed on one side of said plastic housing; a toothed heel associated with a shaft of said hinged cutting blade and said rack gear for moving said cutting blade; and a protective cover hingably attached to said housing, said housing further including a pair of parallel end shields disposed in the lower part of said housing, each of said parallel end shields being perpendicular to a rear plane of said housing and spaced to allow positioning of said drum and said pressure component, each of said end shields including elastically deformable tongues having recesses to accommodate the pressure component and to position opposing ends of the support drum.
- 11. A machine as claimed in claim 10, herein each of said recesses face one another, the elastically deformable tongues causing the pressure component to press against the support drum in a locked position relative to said housing, each of said tongues and said end shields having cutouts to allow unobstructed access to allow quick assembly of said drum and pressure component.
- 12. A machine as claimed in claim 10, wherein one of the end shields is situated on the side of the housing having the start mechanism includes a T-shaped profiled cutout, said cutout having a downstroke which is raised upwardly and rearwardly toward the rear plane of the housing to define one of the tongues, said T-shaped cutout further including a crossbar having an upper part to accommodate one end of the pressure component and a lower part having a rounded, scalloped shape forming the recess for one end of said support drum,wherein the other parallel end shield includes a lower part having an internal opening for receiving the other end of said support drum, said rack gear being formed on an interior facing side of said other end shield surrounding said opening and the other elastically deformable tongue being formed in an upper part of said other end shield, said other tongue having the recess thereof separated by a slit to provide elasticity to said tongue, each of said tongues of each end shield having substantially identical profiles, shapes, and orientations, each said tongue further including a hook portion and each said recess having a ramp shape against which the pressure component rests at the time of assembly.
- 13. A machine as claimed in claim 12, wherein said rack gear includes a front opening providing access to insert said support drum.
- 14. A machine as claimed in claim 10, wherein each end of the pressure component include throats which are inserted, upon assembly, into the recesses formed on each said end shield, said throats further including shoulders which engage external facing sides of the end shields.
- 15. A machine as claimed in claim 10, wherein the support drum includes a throat extending outwardly beyond one of said ends of said support drum, said throat being disposed between an eccentric shaped part and a disc shaped outer extension, said shaped-like extension including a central rib forming an operating button, said start mechanism including a return spring attached to said housing at one end and to said throat at the other end.
- 16. A machine as claimed in claim 10, wherein said support drum is a unitary member including an axial shaft having a plurality of adjacent discs disposed along said shaft in spaced relation, said plurality of discs including a pair of end discs and a plurality of intermediate discs for supporting the strip of paper pulled from said reel, said intermediate discs having scalloped peripheral areas for receiving said hinged cutting blade in an idle position, said end discs including a front end disc and a back end disc, said back end disc including means for defining an interior chamber to accommodate said rack gear adapted to a fixed position, said cutting blade having at one end opposite said rack gear said toothed heel comprising a plurality of teeth forming a matching rack gear capable of cooperating with a plurality of teeth of said fixed rack gear on said drum during rotation of said drum, said machine further including means for limit stopping for ensuring that after partial rotation of the support drum, the hinged cutting blade is reengaged along a trajectory opposite to the direction of rotation of the drum into the scalloped peripheral areas on the intermediate discs of the drum during subsequent rotation of the drum, wherein said drum is rotated by pulling a strip of paper extending through the bottom of the machine.
- 17. A machine as claimed in claim 16, wherein the back end disc formed on the support drum includes a collar defining the interior chamber to accommodate said rack gear to said fixed position, said collar having a transverse cut section sized to allow meshing of the teeth of the fixed rack gear and the toothed heel, said fixed rack gear being a ring gear having centering studs on an external side thereof for engaging said housing, and a semicircular internal projection on an internal side of said ring gear, said semi-circular projection including the plurality of teeth of said rack gear.
- 18. A machine as claimed in claim 17, wherein the teeth of said fixed rack gear comprise a first group of teeth with a constant profile and a second group of teeth having a progressive profile in which the last tooth of said second group releasing the hinged cutting blade to allow good penetration into the pulled strip of paper and further serving as a means for non-return limit stopping if the cutting blade disengages from the teeth of said ring gear.
- 19. A machine as claimed in claim 18, wherein the semicircular projection extends as a shoulder capable of braking and blocking the toothed heel by contact therewith.
- 20. A machine as claimed in claim 18, wherein the cutting blade is a unitary plastic member comprising a support rod, having ends, the support rod forming a finger which engages in the ends discs of said support drum, said blade further including a plurality of cutting teeth having successive triangular profiles, said heel having a triangulated back part and two curved rims, a widest part of the heel having the plurality of teeth forming a movable rack gear, said heel being eccentrically mounted in relation to an end of the support rod, with the gear teeth of the heel being oppositely arranged relative to the cutting teeth.
- 21. A machine as claimed in claim 20, wherein the progressive profile of said second group of teeth has a longest tooth and one of the teeth of the toothed heel extending longer than the other teeth thereof, the longest tooth of said fixed rack gear of said support drum cooperates with a first tooth of said toothed heel on said hinged cutting blade and a first tooth of said first group of teeth of said fixed rack gear cooperates with the longest tooth of said toothed heel.
- 22. A machine as claimed in claim 21, wherein the cutting teeth of the cutting blade have a downward curve, a lowermost surface of said cutting teeth being concave and forming a seat and support area for the strip of paper being out.
- 23. A machine as claimed in claim 16, wherein a bottom surface of said housing includes a projecting limit stop proximate said fixed rack gear and said toothed heel, said limit stop having a curved profile forming a ramp which ensures support of the heel as well as swiveling and displacement of said heel to ensure said cutting blade is displaced into the scalloped peripheral areas in the intermediate discs of said support drum after the strip of paper has been cut.
- 24. A machine as claimed in claim 23, wherein the back end disc of said support drum has a flexible tongue situated opposite to an axis of rotation of the cutting blade, said tongue projecting slightly external to a periphery of said back end disc and forming a second means for limit stopping which contacts the limit stop of said housing.
- 25. A machine as claimed in claim 16, wherein the cutting blade includes a plurality of cutting teeth, the cutting blade being accommodated in the scalloped peripheral areas formed on the intermediate discs of the support drum, said machine having an operating cycle in which at start of the operating cycle the cutting teeth of the cutting blade do not project beyond a periphery of the drum with a gap of several millimeters.
- 26. A machine as claimed in claim 25, in which upon rotation of the support drum, an engagement of the fixed rack gear of the drum and toothed heel causes relative displacement of the cutting blade such that when a first teeth of the rack gear and the toothed heel are meshed, the cutting teeth of the cutting blade are in a plane which is defined between axes of the cutting blade and the support drum,wherein progressive rotation of the support drum extends the cutting teeth toward a rear of the machine in which a full extension of the cutting teeth occurs at a point in which the last two teeth of the toothed heel and the fixed rack gear mesh with one another, said cutting teeth remaining in the fully extended position when the teeth of the toothed heel and fixed rack gear are no longer engaged with one another, and retraction of the cutting teeth occurring when the toothed heel is limit stopped with a limit stop of the housing, wherein contact with the limit stop, retracts the cutting teeth in a direction toward the scalloped peripheral areas in the intermediate end discs of the support drum, and that the toothed heel goes around a semicircular projection formed on the fixed rack gear to create a new operating cycle.
- 27. A machine as claimed in claim 16, wherein said pressure component includes a shaft having opposing ends, each of said ends having centering fingers which click into the recesses of the end shields wherein the shaft of the pressure component rests against the intermediate discs of the support drum.
- 28. A machine as claimed in claim 22, wherein the shaft of the pressure component includes a plurality of discs disposed in spaced relation around said shaft, at least some of said discs exerting pressure on said supportive drum to effect tensioning of paper.
- 29. A machine as claimed in claim 28, wherein the discs of the pressure component have a diameter, in which the diameter of each disc between a center disc and the ends of said support shaft decrease allowing greater flexibility relative to the supporting end shields.
- 30. A machine as claimed in claim 22, wherein the shaft of the pressure component includes a disc member adjacent the end of said cutting blade, having said toothed heel said disc member acting as a limit stop and guide for said toothed heel in order to cause retraction of the cutting blade when a new operating cycle of the machine is initiated.
- 31. A machine as claimed in claim 30, wherein said pressure component includes an end disc at one end thereof, said end disc having a large width said pressure component further including an internal throat used to accommodate and guide one of the end discs of said support drum and allowing driving of said pressure component by rotation of said drum.
- 32. A machine as claimed in claim 30, including an anti-swivel limit stop placed on the toothed heel of the cutting blade which cooperates with the fixed rack gear of the support drum.
- 33. A machine as claimed in claim 30, including a plurality of sound-absorbing retaining rings, said retaining rings being fitted on some of the discs of at least one of the support drum and the pressure component.
- 34. A machine as claimed in claim 16, wherein the support drum includes support surfaces between successive discs over the entire length of said drum, said support surfaces being recessed relative to a peripheral outer edge of said discs, and being established over an angular sector of between about 20° to about 45°.
- 35. A machine as claimed in claim 10, wherein the cover includes a horizontal projection on an interior surface, said projection allowing positioning of paper between the pressure component and the support drum.
- 36. A machine as claimed in claim 10, wherein the housing includes a rear wall having a pair of molded projections to ensure positioning of a nearly completed reel of paper material, said machine further including a gooseneck shaped bow extending from a bottom surface, said projections being disposed behind said gooseneck-shaped bow.
- 37. A machine as claimed in claim 10, wherein the start mechanism being disposed on one of the ends of the support drum the start mechanism including an operating hand wheel in the form of a disc at the one end of the support drum, said hand wheel having a central gripping rib at an exterior facing side and an off-centered cam at an interior side, said off-centered cam cooperating with a return spring used to start the support drum.
