Claims
- 1. In a dump valve of the type including an elongated tubular housing defining a longitudinally extending flow passage and having a sidewall including an opening defining a dump port in communication with the flow passage, and a cover plate mounted on the housing for movement from a position of sealing engagement with the dump port to an open port position, the improvement comprising a deflector plate mounted within the housing for movement from a clear passage position wherein the deflector plate is disposed along the sidewall and substantially across the dump port and retracted substantially out of the flow passage to a dump position wherein the deflector plate is extended from the dump port transversely through the flow passage thereby defining a bypass channel for diverting substantially all flow through the valve out through the dump port when the cover plate is in the open port position.
- 2. The dump valve as defined in claim 1 wherein:
- said deflector plate includes a plurality of openings therethrough.
- 3. A dump valve comprising:
- an elongated tubular housing defining a longitudinally extending flow passage and having a sidewall including an opening defining a dump port in communicaton with the flow passage;
- a deflector plate mounted within the tubular housing along the sidewall for movement from a clear passage position wherein the deflector plate extends substantially across the dump port to a dump position wherein the deflector plate is extended from the dump port transversely through the flow passage thereby defining a by-pass channel for diverting substantially all flow through the dump port;
- a cover plate mounted on the tubular housing for movement from a position of sealing engagement with the dump port to an open port position; and,
- control linkage interconnecting the deflector plate and cover plate for coordinating movement of the cover plate relative to movement of the deflector plate whereby the cover plate is moved to the position of sealing engagement with the dump port as the deflector plate is moved to the clear passage position, and the cover plate is moved to the open port position as the deflector plate is moved to the dump position.
- 4. A dump valve comprising:
- an elongated tubular housing defining a longitudinally extending flow passage and having a sidewall including an opening defining a dump port in communication with the flow passage;
- a deflector plate mounted within the tubular housing along the sidewall for movement from a clear passage position wherein the deflector plate extends substantially across the dump port to a dump position wherein the deflector plate is extended from the dump port transversely through the flow passage thereby defining a bypass channel for diverting substantially all flow through the dump port;
- a cover plate mounted on the tubular housing for movement from a position of sealing engagement with the dump port to an open position; and,
- a linear actuator coupled to the deflector plate and cover plate for driving the deflector plate and cover plate to the dump and open port positions, respectively, or to the clear passage and sealing engagement positions, respectively.
- 5. The dump valve as defined in claim 4, including control linkage interconnecting the deflector plate and cover plate for coordinating movement of the cover plate relative to movement of the deflector plate whereby the cover plate is moved to the position of sealing engagement with the dump port as the deflector plate is moved to the clear passage position, and the cover plate is moved to the open port position as the deflector plate is moved to the dump position.
