Claims
- 1. An envelope for use in conjunction with an automatic envelope opener, said envelope comprising:
- a first wall defined by top and bottom fold lines and at least one side fold line;
- said top fold line including a top fold line weakened portion and said bottom fold line including a bottom fold line weakened portion;
- said first wall including:
- a plurality of first wall weakened portions;
- a first connecting member defined by said top fold line weakened portion and one of said first wall weakened portions;
- a second connecting member defined by said bottom fold line weakened portion and another one of said first wall weakened portions;
- said weakened portions being comprised of continuous knife slit portions of a predetermined length; and
- at least two apertures disposed in said first wall between a plurality of said first wall weakened portions.
- 2. An envelope according to claim 1, wherein at least one aperture is rectangular.
- 3. An envelope according to claim 1, wherein said plurality of first wall weakened portions are orthogonally disposed with respect to said top and bottom fold line weakened portions.
- 4. An envelope according to claim 1, wherein said first wall weakened portions are co-linear and are disposed in a predetermined position on said wall, such that the top and bottom fold line weakened portions and said first wall weakened portions define a flap encompassing the return address portion of the envelope.
- 5. An envelope according to claim 1, wherein an additional connecting member is disposed between said at least two apertures.
- 6. An envelope having defined longitudinal and transverse extents for use in conjunction with an automatic envelope opener having at least one projection for opening the envelope, said envelope comprising:
- front and rear walls, said front wall being formed of a substantially continuous sheet between longitudinal and transverse edges of said envelope, said edges comprising fold lines between the front and rear walls of the envelope;
- first and second wall parts forming adjacent parts of said front wall, said first wall part defined in part by portions of the top and bottom longitudinally extending fold lines and at least one transversely extending side fold line;
- said top fold line including a top fold line weakened portion and said bottom fold line including a bottom fold line weakened portion;
- said front wall defining a juncture between said adjacent first and second wall parts including a plurality of generally transversely extending weakened wall portions, a first connecting member defined by said top fold line weakened portion and one of said transversely extending weakened portions, and a second connecting member defined by said bottom fold line weakened portion and another one of said transversely extending weakened portions;
- said top and bottom fold line weakened portions, said transversely extending weakened portions, and said first and second connecting members enabling said first wall part to define a flap in said front wall pivotable about said one side fold line of said envelope upon severance of said to and bottom weakened portions and said first and second connecting members; and
- means defining an aperture between said first and second wall parts having a discrete longitudinal extent top enable the projection of the automatic envelope opener to enter said envelope through said aperture and engage the underside of said flap to pivot the latter about said one side fold line.
- 7. An envelope according to claim 6 wherein said weakened portions are comprised of die-cut portions of a predetermined length.
- 8. An envelope according to claim 6 wherein said envelope includes at least means defining a pair of apertures having discrete longitudinal extents disposed between a plurality of said transversely extending weakened portions.
- 9. An envelope according to claim 6, wherein said at least one aperture is rectangular.
- 10. An envelope according to claim 6, wherein said plurality of first wall weakened portions are orthogonally disposed with respect to said top and bottom fold line weakened portions.
- 11. An envelope according to claim 8, wherein an additional connecting member is disposed between said at least two apertures.
- 12. An envelope having defined longitudinal and transverse extents for use in conjunction with an automatic envelope opener having at least one projection for opening the envelope, said envelope comprising:
- front and rear walls, said front wall being formed of a substantially continuous sheet between longitudinal and transverse edges of said envelope, said edges comprising fold lines between the front and rear walls of the envelope;
- first and second wall parts forming adjacent parts of said front wall, said first wall part defined in part by portions of the top and bottom longitudinally extending fold lines and at least one transversely extending side fold line;
- said top fold line including a top fold line weakened portion and said bottom fold line including a bottom fold line weakened portion;
- said front wall defining adjacent end edges and between said first and second wall parts including a plurality of generally transversely extending weakened wall portions, a first connecting member defined by said top fold line weakened portion and one of said transversely extending weakened portions, and a second connecting member defined by said bottom fold line weakened portion and another one of said transversely extending weakened portions;
- said top and bottom fold line weakened portions, said transversely extending weakened portions, and said first and second connecting members enabling said first wall part to define a flap in said front wall pivotable about said one side fold line of said envelope upon severance of said top and bottom weakened portions and said first and second connecting members;
- means defining at least one aperture in said second wall part and set back from the end edge thereof and opposing the end edge of said first wall part to enable the projection to enter said envelope through said aperture and engage the underside of said flap and pivot the latter about said one fold line.
- 13. An envelope according to claim 12 wherein said weakened portions are comprised of continuous die-cut portions of a predetermined length.
- 14. An envelope according to claim 12 wherein said envelope includes at least means defining a pair of apertures in said second wall part and set back from the end edge thereof and opposing the end edge of said first wall part.
- 15. An envelope according to claim 12, wherein said at least one aperture is rectangular.
- 16. An envelope according to claim 12, wherein said plurality of first wall weakened portions are orthogonally disposed with respect to said top and bottom fold line weakened portions.
- 17. An envelope according to claim 12, wherein an additional connecting member is disposed between said at least two apertures.
- 18. An envelope according to claim 12, wherein an additional connecting member is disposed between said at least two apertures.
